After reading about Beauty's weekly walks, I've recently started to take Misty my 31yo out - this was last week, I think we'll have to give it a miss today though - hopefully the weather will be better next Sunday
Aww that is a lovely photo, she looks beautiful and seems to be really enjoying her little walk! She looks great for 31 as well, enjoy the rest of your Sunday walks and thanks for sharing x
Oh, she looks beautiful! And really seems to be enjoying her Sunday stroll - you both do! She looks amazing for 31 ! Hope you have many more happy Sundays walking out together! x
I love seeing these oldies enjoying being out and about, with a spring in their step and big bright eyes. She's looks glorious - a real credit to you - and doesn't she look great in her red white and blue
Hopefully she'll be back out for her walk again next week
She was bucking and galloping around the paddock yesterday, (then my nerve failed and I brought her in before she could injure herself - luckily she isn't too stiff today )
~Fantastic she looks great, all credit to you. When my last old chap retired I took him out for walks to keep him active and to have a change of sean. Really lovely to see, keep it up more please.
It's so nice to know some people care for their oldies, I hate seeing adverts trying to dump their horses when they get too old to be useful.
Lovely, lovely photos
Awww what a fab photo. She looks amazing. Love the matchy matchy rug and browband. Perhaps you should get a jacket to match her.
Much love to you and your gorgeous girl xxx
I treat all my oldies like pet dogs lol they love a little stroll and a leg stretcher keeps thier minds active and also they love to find different bushes down the bridle path to have a nibble at. They maybe to frail to ride anymore but i find most still like to go out and see the sights and if i've an extra pair of hands there great company for the wimpy babies who still think theres ghosts and goulies in the bushes!
Lovely turnout - I love to see oldies going for their walkies all smart and shiny. I use to take my old chap out for walk inhand after he retired but he was prone to walking too fast for me so often rode the last 1/2 mile home bareback
I used to take my old girl out for in-hand hacks too. Its nice to be still be able to spend time with your oldie. I used to stick a brush in my pocket and if she stopped to graze, I'd take the opportunity to give her a groom and get the knots out of her mane. Once though she spotted another horse being ridden ahead of her and she forgot all about her age, arthritis and everything else, and having always been a dominant mare that wouldn't tolerate anything at all in front (including bicycles ) dragged me at some speed across the field. Talk about 10 league boots. Wretched beast.
Thank you so much everyone for your lovely comments
Believe me I spent ages on the net, trying to find a hi viz jacket in royal blue, then we could be even more matchy matchy, sadley I couldn't find one :-( Still looking though. So if anyone know of one..
Its so nice to hear about others that take their oldies out for walks too, although I'm still waiting for some "wit" in a car to say "shouldn't you be riding it" LOL
PS - Flertygerty - I hate the adverts for oldies for sale too, it seems to unfair!
PPS - Fatpiggy - its amazing how they can up the pace when they want to!
I tried once to ride/lead our oldie off my horse - this was a few years ago, so my horse was about 9 and oldie was 25. It was a total pain! Oldie is an ex-racer, and refused to walk alongside, meaning he kept getting in front and it made my arms ache! One of the reasons its not enjoyable sometimes taking him out, he's just too eager bless him!
