Sold my old horse last year, found a perfect home for him. He has navicular, so needed an understanding owner. But out of the blue, I got a email yesterday. She has had a silly fall and has been advised not to ride for months, due to old serious back injury. Thank God she is a lovely person and offered him back to me first, like I had asked. So happy to be having him back, he will stay with me indefinitely now. I think its ment to be...I can feel an tearful reunion coming on tomorrow :)

See, there are some really genuine, good people out there ;)
 
thats nice, not that the owner had an accident of course but that she offered your boy back to you and that you can take him:) it does make a change to hear about the nice people rather than another horror story:)
 
That is wonderful, a lovely result all round.

I sold one of our horses a few years ago because at the time there was no one to ride him. I have been looking for another horse recently as husband and daughter are now able to ride again, and out of the blue I saw an ad for our old horse - I rang up and he was sold subject to vetting, but I explained I was a previous owner and would be interested if the sale fell through ... they rang back the next day and said they would rather he came back to me and so we were able to buy him back! :D

Hope you have many happy years together.

I owe it to my boy, I rode all the way through when pregnant with my second child and he was a proper gentleman. He's a star with my children despite being huge! My eldest has really missed him, hope he remembers us?

Brilliant ! So glad you are able to have him back.
I did the same and it was wonderful to have him back. New owner texted me one Sunday afternoon saying she had to sell due to redunacy. Texted right back saying I was coming for him asp.
Best thing I ever did. He not only remembered me, but after coming home, he refused for a short while to get in a lorry.....:D
His lovely short term owner comes to visit him 6 years on but the silly git seemingly prefers slumming it with me to living in pampered bliss on her 5* yard.
 
How wonderful that he had that safety net behind him and that the owner took you up on your offer to have him back. He's obviously been lucky enough to be loved by two very nice owners.

A couple of months ago I made a 450 mile round trip to pick up my old boy from his current owner. Aged 20 sound as a pound but not up to Advanced movements any more. He's still very naughty if hacked alone so he couldn't really go on loan anyway she offered him to me and I took him back as a school master for me, my dressage is a bit flakey as I prefer jumping.

My friend bought a horse from market and it turned out to be unrideable, basically if you hacked him he went loopy, was lovely on farm, but off he was downright dangerous, she couldnt sell him as figured he would end up as dog food, so went back through his passport asking his history and they all said the same he was dangerous, she got to the last person who was a good 15 yrs previous and she said she would come get him as a companion to her donkey!!

Lucky you, OP, I wish I could get my old horse back.

I asked for first refusal, didn't get it. The person she sold the horse to offered him back to her but she didn't pass on my details or let me know that he was re-available, despite the fact that we had spoken after she'd sold him :mad: She was probably too embarrassed to let me see what she'd done to him :mad:

At least there are some genuine people out there
