I recently lost my BC and very sudenly, it's left my JRT sad and unhappy so I've been thinking about getting a little friend for him. I've been offered a JRT bitch, she has had to move from her home to the owner's daughter's as owner is really ill, daughter works full time and can't keep the dog. Little dog has now come in season, I'm thinking this would be a rotten time to move her again and I'm worrying about the effect on my JRT. He is fixed and has been for 11 years but is not against the occasional leg hump!

Prospective dog is not in kennels and is around 60 miles from me so not really an option to visit a few times, it will be a go see her and bring home situation and a long way to go if they don't get on and her being in season would probably not give me a true picture of their compatibility.

I think I've talked myself out of her for the moment but would appreciate any comments or advice on this situation.

As this prospective JRT bitch is unspayed.........you could indeed have some problems!!!:)

Is there any option for the JRT bitch to be kept where she is until she's out of season?

Is this going to be a permanent arrangement, i.e. will you be able to keep her???

If so, would you have her spayed at some point?

Personally I think its too good a chance to miss TBH. She'd be a lovely companion for your older JRT boy; and yes OK they'll both have to get used to each other and a bitch in season is going to pose shall we say a slight challenge! And you'll have to decide whether at some point you'll spay her, or how you'll manage the season's issue for the future.

BUT - I'd be very inclined to give it a go; and give the little bitch a chance of happiness in a nice new home plus do someone a big favour; your old boy will thank you for it coz he'll have a little friend and it will pep him up a bit too methinks!!! Go on.......... you know you want to.

Um, if you DO decide to have her...... piccies on here please!!!

If so........

I would certainly be spaying her asap after her season, I think it's 3 months after to let everything get back to normal. I will ask the present owner if she would keep her until after the season to avoid any stress problems for both doggies. She would def be a keeper! :)
