Reading this thread with utmost fascination as my horses shoes are coming off permanently in 3 weeks today after 10 years in shoes. I know I will need boots and had originally decided on scoots but I've just looked up the Gloves and I think I prefer the look of them. So please continue to discuss

Yeah, oops 😂 tend to act somewhat quickly when I’ve made a decision on something.
We shall see, my vet is fully supportive and our ground is super at the moment thanks to the rain. They can always go back on.

That’s super kind!! I will measure him later! I purposely didn’t have his feet trimmed though and they are at end of shoe cycle so at their longest

Well yes of course it is but I've sent pictures away and been told that her hooves are pretty textbook shape so she'll fit into almost any style of boot so I can afford to be a bit fussier

Well I'm a gloves fan . If going anywhere faster I use them with powerstraps which does require a mallet for putting them on generally. Most importantly for me they never rubbed the prone to rubs ginger with either the single or double neoprene.

absolutely and until the shoes come off and you can get some measurements you really don't know. To my mind the choice will also depend on what is going to happen to the feet when the shoes are removed. With Boggle I suspect probably very little but with a horse that has been shod for 10 years it may be a lot more and the choice of boots may well depend on that.

Last time she was shod farrier took shoes off and helped me measure and take pictures of her hooves without shoes on which I sent to various hoof boot and barefoot companies. I do hope that her feet change shape - for the better obviously! She definitely needs more heel in front. *Maybe* I won't need boots anymore in the very long-term but if they change shape enough that the boots no longer fit that's ok because there seems to be quite a market for second hand. Thanks for your comments, it isn't going to be an easy transition but I believe I'm doing the right thing by her.

on the SH market Scoots seem to sell very quickly. I sold a pair overnight and could have sold them several times over yet I advertised a brand new pair of gloves, never even put on the horse, at a considerable reduction on new and no interest at all.
good luck with the transition, all mine are BF so I couldn't think anything but you are doing right by her.

I wouldn't advise getting gloves as the first set of boots after going barefoot. They need to be a really good fit and as the hooves are likely to change size/shape over the first months you'll likely end up having to replace them pretty quickly
