I didn't think it was that hard, it sounds alot scarier, think it cost me £185 for a one day lesson and £79 for the test but that was a few years ago. I spent loads of time driving around with L plates with my dad first which gives you more confidence on the road. The lesson teaches you all the technical stuff like the reversing and the proper way to hitch on and off. Good luck!
I passed mine just over a month ago. Again, I didn't think it was that hard compared to what I had heard. All in all the whole thing cost me £500 but that was because I had an intensive towing course then the test all in three days. I t was well worth it as now I tow myself twice aweek!
I took mine about a year ago. So long as you have a few lessons and get to grips with the manoeuvres and constantly checking your mirrors, the test is fairly straightforward. You have to do an emergency stop, hitch and unhitch and reverse into a bay which is behind and to your left. All of these parts are done at the test centre. The rest of the test is road driving, which is all fairly easy.
I had about 8 hours of lessons spread over two weeks before taking the test. I also practised reversing in the field to get the feel of it.
The test cost me about £80 and I think that the lessons cost about £40 per hour (ish). In all, it cost about £400.
I am so glad that I spend the time and money doing mine - it has given me so much more freedom.
