Just been having a convo with OH about going away this summer for a few days. We rarely go away now as since mum's accident my parents cant come up and stay with the dogs.

So dogs need to go with us really. Kennels are out of the question due to Tojo's neuroticisms.

We could get a house sitter but not ideal as we would have to spend about four weeks tidying up beforehand!:D

Plus Tojo doesnt like strangers...

There are lots of places that say they take dogs but really they take small dogs...not big buggers like mine.

Personally I think we should get a caravan or BIG tent but OH just wont go there! He is a Top Gear fan. Hence fear of caravans...

I have someone who can do the horses but need to book early.

So if anyone knows of anywhere we can go please let me know!So long as it isnt Basingstoke!
:D

how big are your dogs? we have a holiday cottage and happily take 2 dogs, however we now draw the line at newfoundlands and st bernards. We had someone stay with one of each and it took several hours to clean the slobber off the walls, ceilings and floors and we got enough hair off the carpets to create several jumpers!

They are English Mastiffs. Slobber is a nightmare tbh. Even when you think you have cleaned it all there is still some hiding away somewhere.

Where do you want to go? If you fancy going to Somerset we have stayed on a lovely farm where they were more than happy for us to take all 4 of ours - 2 springers and 2 terriers. Its basic but clean and they are always friendly. Both cottages have access onto fields and plenty of lovely walking around.
PM me if you want more details and I will find her number for you.
If anyone else knows of any good ones let us know, I don't like leaving my dogs at home even for a day.

We have a farmhouse b & b and a lovely stable that the really big dogs can sleep in. We have a couple with gsds who keep coming back so it can't be that bad :)

We rented a house called Beach Haven in Croyde, North Devon. It may be too big - it sleeps 14. There were 8 of us. We took an English Bull Mastiff and a Labrador. We loved it so much we're going again this year. I'll fish out the agents as there are a few houses that take dogs in Croyde and in the locality. It's really beautiful, although you can't take dogs on Croyde Beach in the summer, but there are plenty of beaches nearby, plus lots of walks on the nature reserve round the edge of the beach. Saunton Sands, and Putsborough are round the headlands either side of Croyde

My landlady has a holiday cottage and is very easy going! Can PM her details, we are in Derbyshire, close to the Peak District, and surrounded by fields!

We have 4 dogs (2 terriers 2 Lurchers) and every year go over to Exmoor hunting. We stay in Withypool and they are more than happy to have us and our 4, some places limit to 2. Great thing down there is that most pubs are dog friendly as well. link for where we go
http://www.westerclose.f9.co.uk/ we have stayed in both Bantam and Pennycoombe Cottages.

Oh thanks everyone! Exmoor and Somerset are easily doable. Derbyshire sounds good and we have relatives we could visit. We dont need huge long dog walks as we are talking Mastiffs here but a walk on the beach/dog friendly pubs would be good.

I will pm people at the weekend.

We stayed at www.lowercampscott.co.uk at new year and we are going back in the summer. It is near Woolacombe and everywhere round there is dog-friendly - all the pubs and restaurants, and Woolacombe beach is great for dogs.
We took our springer and our friends took their 3 springers, the owners didn't mind one bit! Not cheap though.

We've done 4 holidays with 3 dogs in tow, one of which was a GSD with no problems. We just trawled the usual holiday rental websites and looked for cottages that accepted dogs. One was near Exmoor but I can't remember the details now, sorry! Well worth asking though and you might be pleasantly surprised.

Can def recommend national trust cottages, lots take two dogs and the places are all stunning and beautifully kept. We've stayed at:

Mill cottage - brilliant for the dogs if they like swimming and a secure garden:

Shedbush - huge secure garden and brilliant walking:

Hollis head - brilliant walking but not a secure garden:

And this year we are going here:

:)

We have also stayed in Exford on Exmoor (again hunting)!! Exford has two pubs within walking distance although a torch is recommened for after dark treks! White horse pub also has rooms allowing pets but bit more expensive - we prefer this pub as lots of country folk. Lovely lady owns the ones on this link
