I'm thinking of taking my horse (and dog) away to Cornwall / Devon for a week's holiday (since I haven't been for about 15 years

).

I plan on keeping my horse at a livery yard next to the beach so I can go for early morning gallops and staying at a local B&B or similar.

Has anyone done anything like this before? Any suggestions on where to go, keep my horse, stay, etc?

Thanks.

We used to take the horses down to the forest of dean fora week. We enjoyed it that much we went twice a year!
We found a place that offers self catering & livery. Facilities where fantastic and the hacking was simply out of this world.

I went with my friend once who invited me as her other friend had let her down at the last minute by saying she wasn't going after all. It was all paid for so I went in her place. I did enjoy it to be honest, but it was very hard work. The first ride we did was about 18.5 miles and took all day with a pit stop at a pub for lunch. Unfortunately my friends had chosen the Leciester ride and there was tons of bridle path gates to be opened and shut. Sadly my friends horse went lame and we had to come home after the first day. The weather was lovely (we went in August) and the countryside was beautiful around Rutland water. I would go again especially as now I love pleasure rides and things like that more and more.

I took my horse to Devon several years ago, we just contacted a campsite & asked them if there was a farm or riding school near by.
Luckily enough there was a riding school next door so I rang them & we kept our horses there for the week while we camped.
It was one of the best holidays I've had, I'd recommend it.
It might be worth finding a B&B you want to stay in & then asking them about farms/yards near by.
Good luck

Have been away loads of time with my horse and had loads of fun.

Buy 'Bed and Breakfast for Horse and Rider' from the BHS as it lists all the places County by County that accomodate horses and riders.

I had a great time with Bridlerides, excellent accommodation, route instructions and the weather was good. I don't know if they do routes in Cornwall, but they do some beach rides in other parts. And you know that the routes have been researched and are rideable and good rides.

Some friends went to a "horse bed and breakfast" in Herefordshire (NOT a Bridleride holiday) and the b & b owners hadn't researched the routes and it turned out that the local ride was a permissive route which had been blocked off, so they had to turn back. The next day the bridlepaths were poorly marked (unusual for Herefordshire, which isn't bad normally) and after struggling for ages and ages, they gave up. So their nice riding weekend turned out to be a bit of a damp squid.

Not quite the same, but I used to live in Devon and go back there to stay with a friend and keep Marnie in the livery yard where I was before I moved to Essex. I go for a fortnight and we have a lovely time - am going on Saturday morning, so frantically packing for myself, one horse and two dogs at the moment
