I'm thinking of doing this in May next year and would love to hear your recommendations of places to go within 2 and a half hours drive of Somerset. I thinking Devon, Dorset or Hampshire. Exmoor appeals, but I'm open to any suggestions.

Redlands Equestrian has taken over BridleRides. They have places all over the country.
Try the BHS Bed and Breakfast for Horses and look in the monthly magazines as they have lots of advertisements for horse holdiays.

Try looking on various county websites too, although personal recommendation is always best. I know someone who picked a place advertised on in local tourist booklet for horse holidays and they were disappointed and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

There is a holiday cottage just down the road from me with stables and fields available. You ride directly onto the moor, its fantastic hacking, we are very lucky!

Dogs are welcome too (even children!!) :)

Just PM me and I'll give you the owners number. Its not really advertised, mostly booked through word of mouth and very reasonably priced.

My friends took their horses on a long weekend break just outside Burley in the New Forest last weekend.... I haven't heard yet what they thought of it but will report back with details if it was as good as they were hoping!
