Hi
I haven't ridden on the beach since i was a child and id love to take my section D down and have some fun but i think she may find it a bit spooky! She's only 5 and never been before.

Im a novice so any advice on a beach ride?? I haven't got anything planning but its something id eventually like to do...one day!:)

take it slowly and go at a quiet time with a quiet horse. beware of kites as thats what my boy hated.

great fun though, possibly best ride of my life ever.

Use super glue!!!

most horses for some reason hype up the first couple of times down the beach and take him for a swim (odviously only if its calm)

Could you go with friends whose horses have been before?
I used to ride on the beach as a child and went with my daughter last year - first time in years. I am now addicted, we go at every chance. We are lucky to have a nearly deserted a few miles away out of season. Bliss.
Enjoy

The first time I took my girlie I was expecting fireworks as she is prone to being rather full of it. Instead she was calm as you like and really easy - she doesn't 'do' getting her feet wet though!!!

Have fun - make sure you have people with you and you take things nice and slow.

just take it easy, stick to the hard sands where the tide has gone out, don't even attempt the water until your horse has settled with the noise and space and everything else.
most of all though, make sure you and your horse have fun and leave on a positive note so that its easier next time...

my horse is so funny on the beach - every horse we have ever had has seen the beach as a galloping excuse, but Ron is different - he plods like a donkey until i tell him he can canter, and then he carts me for a mile or so and then just gives up!! and he tries jumping the waves!

Its a fantastic experience I can't wait to go again. Kites were scary for us - u know those huge things with skatebords attached. Apart from that the pebbles at the beginning of the beach are a bit trecherous so perhaps lead down these. I went with my green 7yo and a 5 yo and they were both fine really so just try to enjoy yourself!

Even though she may be spooky, her being 5 works to your advantage. Get's her use to it early on in life.

When I lived on the Isle of wight, I was lucky enough to live a mile away from the beach, so often got chance to beach ride, plus we used to walk my friends yearling down there sometimes for the experience.

I miss that, not living anywhere near a beach now.
