After all the drama with my Disco, I've decided to move on and get something else. I can't take it anymore. :(

I've got my eye on a 2004 Hyundai Sante Fe. Any thoughts on them?

People on car review websites give them good reviews.

It doesn't look like it has a low range gear box, which was something I used a lot on my truck back in the US but can probably count on one hand the amount of times in five years I used it on the Disco in this country. The normal 4wd got me out of most scrapes. How is the 4wd on the Santa Fe on muddy, snowy, and icy hills? How else do Santa Fes compare with Discos?

I don't have a trailer but there's a chance that some day I will man up and put myself through the test, so something that could haul one horse would be nice.

I have one and love it! It's the nicest car I've ever driven. It is great towing my Ifor 505 and one horse. We got it last June so have not had the chance to use it in snow but my OH takes it off road up forest tracks and says its been fine. :-)

We have one its the best car ive ever driven, went from a disco wouldnt go back.
Comfy good space lovely drive not towed with it yet but can't see it being a problem drove really well in the ice and snow we had this year.

Forgot to say ours is a diesel and it good on fuel and insurance not like other 4 x 4 's we've had before

Yeah, the one I found is a diesel. Evidently they get better gas mileage than the Disco, which would be great. How reliable are they? The old Disco was a great car in many ways, definitely my kind of car, but I've stopped appreciating having to be recovered from awkward places and not being able to see my horse (who is luckily on full livery).

Im possibly looking at a newer towing car so interested in this, for those that tow with it what model have you got and what's the towing weight? They look very smart.

My dad has a sante fe currently and it has been our towing car for a good few years. He seems to like it and is very fussy about cars! It will belong to me in June as it is my 21st birthday present! :D sounds like it's a good car to have so looking forward to getting rid of my fiat panda (gay) and upgrading!

My moms got an 57 plate, petrol, Auto, 2.8. Its been brilliant! It is heavy on fuel being an auto but tows like a dream and hasn't let us down yet (touch wood) unlike the Frontera and freelander that we've had before.

We've driven it in icy snowy conditions on hills and round town and its fine. Not driven it so much through wet muddy fields in the winter but it does go over the fields for local shows etc without even noticing a change in ground conditions.

Only con that my mom will tell you about is thats its boring - as its never broken down ;) Our frontera spent weeks in the garage and there was ALWAYS something wrong with it:o

Oh and the Santa Fe is really easy to work on (service and brakes etc) so your local garage should'nt charge you an arm and a leg for labour because everything is seased up/won't come apart :)
