Splintex gold.

Did it work? How long before you noticed a difference? Faran kicked himself in the spring and the splint he managed to give himself is cold but rather large. I’m not all that fussed about the cosmetic side of the splint however as I said it’s rather large and I’m worried he kicks it again and reactivates it or worse. He’s never been lame and he got four weeks off when he did it.

I’ve had this recommended to me, however it’s a new product for me so gathering some info before it arrives. Says to put on for three days then leave for two and continue for 30 days. Has anyone any tips or tricks to ensure maximum effectiveness? He will have to stay in work but it says that this is fine with the gold version. If I’d have known about this product I’d have bought the silver version when he had time off.

Love and learn

I have used Gold and Silver and I don’t think either did anything. One of my youngsters threw a big splint in January and like Faran there was no heat and he wasn’t lame. I used Silver because that is all I could get hold of and it didn’t do anything. He went to sales livery in late May and has been flat and jump schooling and hacking daily and the splint is only just detectable by feel.

Thanks 😊

His unfortunately sticks out like an actual sore thumb 😅 if it wasn’t as large I genuinely wouldn’t be bothered as I’ve moved away from showing after my last few very disgusting attitude moments from the shows I’ve been to and a general consensus on anyone running or riding s horse that’s not a size 8 in clothes 🙄 (can’t need the entries that badly can these shows eh? ) so it’s not a cosmetic need more than his big Welsh dragon movements when he’s feeling a bit spicy putting it in danger constantly 😅 watching him in the field sometimes im like 😰

Many years ago I used to show and was horrified when my beautiful Anglo-Arab threw an enormous splint. I tried Splintex and Bone Radiol, but in the end the huge splint reduced in size on its own and I carried on showing without any issues. Maybe just try giving it some time without any intervention and see what happens?

Thanks folks 😊 I might try the radiol as well. If they don’t work I’ve only wasted a little bit of money I mean it’s not as if either of them break the bank. Just I’ve seen raving reviews and rubbish reviews so seems to be works for some and not for others 😅

Can I ask how you got on? I’m looking at a youngster with a splint… hijinks out in the field I believe! cheap project/companion so I’m not likely to show but I am interested whether it’s likely to deflate much as he continues to grow, he’s quite pretty 🙈

We used to use Bone Radiol but it is obviously painful for the horse because after putting it on a time or two the horse tries to avoid having it put on. So I've stopped using it and splints seem to be reabsorbed in time whether or not it is used.

He wasn’t a fan. As it’s turned out he’s been on box rest since end of Nov/beg of dec and it’s went down a bit. I was treating ir with a steroid I got from the vet but they said it was a cracker and probably wouldn’t go down that much 😬

I got it all xrayed and it’a definitely not impinging on anything crucial which was the worry.

I am tempted to try magnets but I’ve also been warned about them so very on the fence.

Going to assume the box rest is unrelated - what a shame! Interesting that even a large splint isn’t having an impact on anything else… maybe I’ll take the plunge on the yellow pony I’m eyeing up 🤔😂 thankyou!

Louis threw an enormous splint when he was about 11 it was the size of an egg and looked terrible was never lame, it took about 6 months to start to flatten then it slowly got flatter and sort of spread, you can just about see it in summer when his got less hair his 18 now.

That stuff you paint on can be painful my friend used it on her mare and after a few weeks she couldn't get near her with it, the mare was kicking out and meant it.

Yes the box rest is for very badly bruised soles 😒 because he’s an idiot and thinks that galloping about on hard ground is a fun activity. He’s bee in since and of Nov/beg if Dec 😒
