Talking about animal cruelty...

I won't be watching it, seems pointless, we all know horrid things go on and would do our best to stop them , but why post them if it is that bad.

it's a rodeo... though I don't know if all rodeo's are cruel,I just believe that the horses are absolutely terrified and people are tying their legs up and pinning them down, then the cows, they're obviously on horse back (riders) and they wrap the rope around the cows and canter off making the cows fly up in the air and crash down on the ground, the cows are then dragged whilst trying to get up and some do and some don't, though it is a proper arena, a lot of them get injured and some are fatalities.

I have looked at a few of the vids posted by this Shark guy. He campaigns against the Cheyenne rodeo in the US, which is a big deal for the town and brings in loads of money. The problem he points out is that there are "rules" to minimise cruelty for the events which are not followed. I imagine that PETA in the US puts a lot of time, effort and money in campaigning against the Cheyenne rodeo, too. Animal welfare is a big concern in the US and I think there is a lot of local and national advers pressure against this event, which is increasingly seen as old-fashioned and out of touch with today's mores. If you wish to do something specifically against this, then donate to one of the American animal welfare organisations.

What is the nature of the cruelty?

It sickens me to think that some people, even in this country, can't see that this is abuse.
This isn't horsemanship, nor sport, it's just plain cruelty and mistreatment, and sometimes I wonder what kind of a place we live in that can do this to any animal.
But I suppose I'm also not surprised, we still see horses as something we can use and abuse, for the sole enjoyment or our selfish desires.

There's some dreadful examples of horse on Youtube, if you look. :(

I came across a chap (in South America somewhere I think) who delights in posting films of himself riding foals. No, I don't mean young horses, I mean tiny foals too young to be weaned. The only possible point of what he was doing is to wind up/annoy animal lovers. I found it very upsetting, but couldn't see any point in posting it just to upset others.

I'd only post I think if I thought there was something people could do about it.

Perhaps your right, I appologise sarahsum1, I wasn't attacking you personally.

No need to apologise, I can understand why you may have thought I had watched it and was asking where the cruelty was. But touchstone was spot on. I didn't watch it (have seen enough animal cruelty videos to last a life time! :() But wanted to know what the content was so I didn't have to click on it.

P.s I am not a fan of rodeo.

Mind you I am not sure why I wanted to know the nature of the cruelty. What difference does it make, it's all cruelty :(

I can briefly enlighten you. It's basically a bunch of cowboys in an arena with wild, scared horses, and they work as teams of 3 or so to get the horse saddled and a rider on it. It appears that any method can be used to subdue the horse, and it's a race to see who can get on fastest and stay on longest.
I've actually seen a video of two horses colliding as they don't know any commands. It really is sickening, I didn't watch the video as I've seen it before.

Rodeos have always bothered me. Maybe in the old wild west days people didn't know any better ways to handle horses and cattle. Now however, people should know better but they continue to use these crude tactics all for entertainment.

Sorry if you didn't want to know, but I don't believe in ignorance is bliss. I feel the more enlightened people are, the more we can do to change things.

I really do hate rodeos. So cruel! The way they rope and tie those calves especially. I haven't watched the video as I know it would upset me. I already know it goes on and there's nothing I can do about it. I actually think a lot of what goes on in America is cruel, especially the showing of the TWHs in the Big Lick and the Arab showing. Hard to believe they are a civilised country when you see that all going on like there's nothing wrong with it.
