Our plan tomorrow for improving Chocx' marks is no more than a ten minute work in before the test, as last week he got bored waiting 23 mins and switched off.
Anyone else not work in a long time? Are we mad?

Ideally our best work in would be a quick gallop up the side of the dressage arena, but somehow don't think the judge or adjoining competitors would appreciate that....

I think you are right.
I can easily over do it with my boy.
There is a fine line between being not quite warmed up and just right. LOL.
I am aiming to do a very quick warm up at my next event.
I have only done one test this season and I well and truely over cooked the warm up.

I am having a really good playing year this year. I am playing about with alsorts.
Tomorrow we are doing our first outdoor "full" Trec (We did an indoor one back in the winter). I am looking forward to it. I think S will enjoy it too.

but your lucky in way if you can workin in 10mins, think of poor folk like me 10mins lunging then a good 30mins settling in....

Yes but this is the first horse in years that's idle!! All our others took ages, Monty never damned well settled, Jonts is a fizz ball despite calmers galore and lunging/riding etc so we are a bit at a loss how to cope with a quiet horse.
The devil also knows when she drops her whip... I'll be spotted tomorrow doing a sort of sidle to slide it into my hand behind my back in the hope he doesn't see it's gone!

We dont warm up for too long either, around 15 mins often does

unless horse is in nasty mood

Good luck!!!!!

Mine gets really annoyed with me if I warm her up for ages then expect her to do a decent test - so I literally warm her muscles up with a 10 min walk and trot, no canter, practise a canter transition or two when waiting for the bell, and off we go! *touch wood* I've had a rosette every time so far! (ok, only at unaff prelim, but still!)

we have to warm up for a long time, although i would rather not!

takes a good half an hour of pure work before the dressage untill horsey has settled and relaxed. annoying, but brings out her best results so worth it

luckily she has a LOT of stamina and is still as fresh as when we started dressage when she finishes xcountry!

bah, used to just take pony off the box and into the ring before e switched off.
new one has a regime of twenty mins lungeing, same riding and a ten minute 'chill out' walk to get him sorted!

With Glen you only need about 10 minutes as he would get bored and his nose would poke further out. I once had a horse who I was quite happy to get on and go striaght into the test. With him once I started work I couldn't stop. We just had to keep trotting which was annoying if they were running late. Also I couldn't canter when we were warming up as her would blow up. he was such a nice horse

In the few events I did with Hannah I always warmed up for dressage over the showjump practice fences, she found dressage terribly dull. If I did that I'd get at least half way around the test before she switched off!

If it is an event can you not go for a brisk canter somewhere not too close to the Dressage arena?

That bought back happy memories. Many years ago I would be the one hurtling up and down the dressage warm up area in a cross country canter on my irish hunter type amongst all the sleek tbs. We had an agreement that I wouldn't ask too much outside and he would round his back and start to swing as we went through A! Good Luck

Yep, I warm up for 10 maybe 15mins tops on S or she just switches off and goes into seaside donkey mode!
