Following the post below (didn't want to hijack!)...

Are the adult pony camps only for people who are out competing every weekend, dressage-ing at Elem and jumping 1m+ tracks or doing BE? Or do they take "normal" every day riders too?

I'd quite like the idea of something like that but not if I'm going to be the only person who can't do a perfect half pass or won't attempt to jump a BE Nov standard XC course!

The one I mentioned previously is for 'normal' people. They have various lessons on either water schooling, dressage, jumping, xcountry. Never been myself (not much of a camper lol) but I have read the reports they post on their website and it looks like jolly good fun. Lots of socialising too

Our RC does them,

They have a week long summer one that caters primarily for the everyday rider
They also have a long weekend one that is more geared for people who want to compete but it caters for those competing at entry level (ie 2'3").

I would hazzard a guess that pretty much every advertised camp would be more leisure rider/low competiton level

I too look at these things think "that sounds fun" then think "yeah but not for muppets like me"
Maybe we should talk a venue into doing a muppets training adult camp. Where jump heights start at 1ft and dressage = actually managing a straight line in the pace you wanted?!!!

Oh yes please!

I looked at the link from the other thread but the camps are all up north. I'd love to go away with my big pony.

Love it

I'm ok with the dressage side of it and don't mind jumping if I can follow everyone else (ie hunting)...shut my eyes and kick! But SJ and XC alone is a different matter entirely

We should arrange our own horsie camp for people who only want to do a little bit, and mostly want to do it for the wine and gossip in the evening

the kind of thing i am wanting is a few days away where the atmosphere is all about having fun and learning a lot

my baby horse hasnt been broken in very many months and although he's an absolute joy to ride we are still erstablishing his flatwork (am very excited about him though as he seems to look forward to our schooling sessions, concentrates and tries really hard to get it right)

looked at the yorkshire riding centre site at their camp but its for teens and young adults (which i tke to mean 20-ish?) also i cant find a price on there

Let's do it!! Seriously!

Years ago, a group of HHOers arranged a weekend clinic with Mary Wanless (I think??) or a weekend get together at one of her clinics. We should do something like that. If there were enough of us, there's no reason why we couldn't speak to someone like the YRC and arrange our own camp...

If you are serious i'd defintiely be up for it. i'd love to learn how to jump little XC jumps properly and safely and improve my SJ - at heights of 60-75 cm. Dressage i can take or leave but i should be better at flat work than i am so again would be interested in learning the basics.

would take a lot of planning but im up for it (im OP from other thread) maybe winter when their rates are lower and stay in the chalets?
or next spring/summer? prob too late to organise for this summer i imagine

I guess if it were pointed out that they'd have large numbers of riders interested at the level we've talked about, the venue could sort everything else out. They would easily fill courses i would have thought as there's such a gap at that level. We might have to do it in winter or next spring but i'm sure no venue wants to turn down money at the moment.
the venue will know local B&B / camp sites etc so not sure how much organising we would need to do except to convince a venue.

ok lets do this...any volunteers for contacting venues?

i can, but if there are any wonderfully organised types who'd like to...?

I'd def. be up for it as well, sounds like a brilliant idea, where could we go though?

[/ QUOTE ]

thats the thing, i need to be up north for reasons stated in other thread, some will need to be south, could be 2 seperate venues

If there were enough people then it might not be too difficult to get something organised for this year, or at least towards the end of the summer/early autumn.

I will jump bigger than 75cm but lose my confidence v easily so it would be nice to do some small low key stuff. I mostly want to do dressage with my boy (plan is to eventually affiliate...hahaha

) but it would just be nice to go and do something different.

I don't know anywhere to call TBH. I don't know anywhere in this area...Somerford, Eland Lodge...??

Look on the active rider website they have some venues all over. Maybe other HHO'ers know of places that do camps?
wish i could jump higher than 75cm.........!

As I say, I will do it something like out hunting when I've had a load of port and can just sit behind someone else and kick, but not very brave on my own!

I'll do some research. Where are you based?

My boy has only just started jumping so don't want to go too high!! I'm not that confident either just would love to take him away for a weekend, would be really good experience for him, he's only been to a couple of shows for dressage. Would like to have a try at all different things, didn't know there were such camps! I'm in Norfolk.

am hoping to get him to his first day out at thj local dressage in the next month or 2

Grendon Equestrian Centre (warwickshire) do adult pony camps
smile.gif
I did the kids one a few years back and loved it. They seperated us out so that no-one was over-faced by any means. Like I say it was a few years ago that I went so it might be different now, but they still advertise the camps. Just thought it might be worth a mention.

I've just looked on their website and it looks perfect. Not a bad location, geographically, either as fairly central. Worth looking at the website guys

I don't mind giving them a call to see if they would do a separate HHO camp!
