i am going to give my boy a full clip this year. i would like to know what everones opinion is of leaving a saddle patch in and if so do you just do an oval shape or the shape of the saddle.
I would also like some help/ideas as to how to clip a 'decoration' ito his hind quarters. How is it done and what is the 'easiest' shape for a beginner to clip? any useful tips appreciated. Thanks x

I would recommend the oval shape rather than the whole saddle area as he will get sweaty under there whe you ride. I personnally take the whole lot off.

Heart or stars are good to begin with, I did a lightening stirick once which was quite easy..draw it on with chalk first so you have a line to follow. If you screw it up, clip the whole lot off and have a go in the other side!

hi hi hi! ive just clipped my boy (see t'other post)

I didnt leave a saddle patch last year or year before frankly because mine was sh|te and I did it really badly! I have left one on zeb this year and I used chalk round a gel pad and that looks ok (ish) but if I get fed up with it I will just get rid of it in due course.

I have stars on my boys bottom, and used the quarter marking stencils. there are websites you can get them off, note http://www.stencilbum.co.uk/ I have just done 3 stars on each side, one big and 2 small, but space them out as i did them really close together and it was very fiddly! (although fun!)

not sure which is an easy shape to do. did have thunderbolts last year which was groovy!

I take the saddle patch off but as the RS they do the shape of a saddle. As for shapes you can buy stencils on eBay or make your own. When I was at a larger livery people started off with hearts and stars

I leave an oval as my boy gets really sensitive to the hair prickling him - i don't clip a bridle path for the same reason. I use a sheepkin pad and have never had any problems with him being too sweaty, but then i usually wash him down after hunting anyway!
