Talking of Jabs

I would have taken Barnes a lot earlier - he'll be nearly 5 months by the time he's fully 'road worthy'! but we sisn't have any choice as the previous owner had done 'nothing' with him.

I have read lots of debate about how early is too early due to antibodies from mum etc but I really don't know that much about it. So I'm no help am I

!

See I'm leaving mine until 12 weeks for their first injection. My vet says that people don't know that the bitches antibodies from the milk protect the pup until he/she is 12 weeks old, the antibodies protect against every virus/injection/disease e.t.c she has encountered. And so when you jab before 12 weeks the bitches antibodies fight the contents of the injection and so it doesn't protect the pup - her theory makes sense doesn't it...

My vet likes to do dogs and cats first jabs at 12 weeks, follow up at 16.

Same as mine, except its 12 and 15 weeks. What they say really does make sense though doesn't it.

Oh definatly!
We have been saying "breast is best" for humans for years, partly for that reason.
Dogs pass on their antibodies too

It's interisting that so many vets give conflicting opinions, but frustrating at teh same time.
Can be tricky to know what to do for the best when they cant decide amonst themselves!

Both of mine were done at 8 and 10 weeks with no ill effects. The breeder of my new pup said he thought that was too early but I took the vets advice. My older dog was microchipped at 16 weeks when I bought him and the pup at 10 weeks, same time as her 2nd jab.
