This is the underside of her jaw... rock hard, no heat or pain. Eats well, takes the bit and bridle. (that sounds like something taken off Dragon Driving!)

My mare and the old horse are both 'smooth'. Makes me think it is just her teeth growing and sorting themselves out - she is only 2.

Can anyone confirm this? Or tell me otherwise. I'll try not to panic!!

Youngster thing!! It's the teeth erupting. Over the years I have had all sorts of tooth things with youngstock! My coloured was the worst - he had a big lump and then an abcess on his cheek, looked like a hamster for about a week!!
What your pony has is perfectly normal so try not to worry!

Hi

My youngster had this too, and when I had the vet out to check her teeth he confirmed that it is the teeth erupting (like Maisie says) - usual in native breeds who tend to have too many teeth for such small mouths, as far as I can remember. The vet said just leave them be, unless of course they erupt out through the skin !!!

My 5 year old had them when she was about 2 as well. Unfortunately my vet at the time was utterly useless and when I got her out to have a look decided my girl had been kicked in the field and did x rays, then told me afterwards that it looked as though there was a crack in the tooth from the kick! I was horrified but I moved soon after that and changed vets, the next one put me straight and said they're nothing to worry about and do go. He was right, they've gone. Just wish the other vet had been a little more knowledgeable!
