talking of tendon boots... recommendations please.

not for me (see Kit's Paris Fashion Week thread) but for 1 of my girls.
what are the best, non-leg-heating-up, most protective, lightweight, smart tendon boots on the market please?
Trizone? Prolite? NEW? Something else?

(my lovely Ellie jumped beautifully today, first time leaving the ground for months, so i've decided she deserves a present, other than oodles of polos, carrots and apples...!)

I have some lovely Amerigo leather one (an ebay bargain) but rarely use them now for cleaning/buckle faff reasons. They are on the heavy side but utterly lovely.

I mostly stick to Eskadrons. Not the fancy, fancy new ones, just the bog standard basic ones.
 
I have some veredus ones.... Just the boring velcro strap ones. Anyway we won them in a competition 7 years ago and they are still going strong, little tatty now but they have been in full use and have lasted brilliantly and offer really good protection too.
 
I won a set of the Tri-zone ones and started using them (was sooo chuffed - I never win anything! :D)
I have to say I love them. I have used them and washed them and used them and washed them and used them and washed them...... and they still look smart and stay in place perfectly. They've got little holes in so I think they do the 'aircool' thing although as they're open fronted I'm not sure how necessary that is.
Giving them away in a competition was a good plan, as if I ever have to replace them (which isn't looking necessary any time soon) I will definitely get the same again.
In case you hadn't noticed, I would certainly recommend them ;)
 
Another fan on tri zone tendon boots...mine aren't the air cooled ones, but the lining has kind of channels in it to encourage air flow and my horse always has nice cool legs after use. Look pretty smart, light and not too £££ either. Have used them daily on multiple horses and put them through the washing machine loads of times, and they're only just starting to look a little bit old now after 2 years.
I've never had the NEW tendon boots but thought they look pretty good and I'm a big fan of their xc boots which I have so might be worth a try...
A horse we had in for schooling had some lovely leather Dalmar tendon boots...which currently have 10% off on their website ;)
 
im a fan of any of the hard shell boots, IMO they do what they say on the tin. Hampa, Norton, Masta, Eskadron, Roma...plastic hard shell, neoprene lined. Nothing fancy but either a SJ round is much less time spent booted than XC or after a lesson/session I always wash and brush legs and they go cool pretty much straight away.

K - frankly I'd go with the pair she was wearing, the leather looks lovely and soft ;)
 
Many years ago I was told by a very experience saddler, that unless the boots were made for each horse individually, they would not support the tendons sufficiently to make any significant difference.

I'm not sure if this is right, but it has always remained in my head, and I've never used tendons boots, just brushing boots - or XC if going XC.
 
Britestar, no boot can support the tendons at all (well, apart from the Dalmar medical one, which isn't on the open market yet) but they can protect hugely. I wouldn't let a horse leave the floor without tendon protection on the front legs. I had a good horse strike itself xc at N level through a good boot. Tendon was bruised but after rehab scanned totally clean and horse went on to 3*. If she hadn't had good boots on, I think it would have ended her career...

But those boots aren't designed to support are they? They are only designed to protect the legs from bashes, overreaches, scrapes etc. I wouldn't say brushing, tendon or xc boots offer much support but they do offer protection.

I don't even ride at home (hacking, flatwork & jumping) without tendon or over reach boots on, my mum used to always use knee boots while hacking too (I don't do that at the moment) as she had a horse come down and skin its knees - they were scarred for life.
I do use road nails in my horse to give him better grip though

I always boots my horses up everytime they are ridden, but everyone has different experiences. Many probably do think they tendon boots support rather than protect.

I would never use fetlock boots, as the one time I did, the horse tore open the inside of its leg, requiring several stiches. If I'd had brushing boots on as I normally did, the it wouldn't have happened.
 
IMO brushing boots are like wearing thick socks or slippers out in the street and any hard shelled protection is like putting shoes on! I would take the rubbish out in slippers, and school in Bboots but never go out barefoot likewise I would like K never leave the ground with a horses leg naked...

occasionally, I may walk home barefoot but that is a different matter!:D
 
I have the N.E.W tendon and fetlock boots and they are great, would recomend them. Have used Eskadon ones as well and again they were fab.
 
I have some of the veredus olympic ones, they are great! previously i have had roma and woof wear ect none even come close to the veredus they have gel type stuff on the inside, easy straps to do up and undo and fit my horse perfectly. They are pricey but well worth it. i will never go back to the cheap ones!
 
We use the Dalmar range for pretty much everything now. They do the open fronted tendon boots which we use for show jumping, as well as the air cooled xc boots, but they also do a lightweight open fronted speed boot which has the same tendon protection but is much lighter weight and we use that for all canter/gallop work, jump schooling etc. Not the cheapest on the market, but not the most expensive either and, whilst I know that you often "pay for the name" I do believe that also you get what you pay for! Can't recommend Dalmar highly enough (and no I don't work for them LOL !)
 
I have a few pairs of the John Whitaker ones - mainly because their pony size acctually fits ponies!! They are just like the Eskadron et al types - hard shell, neoprene lining
 
Another who likes the Veredus Pro Light ones they are a hard enough shell for protection without rubbing, I have had a few sets for a couple of years (some old NEW ones but the same boot), they've lasted really well, velcro still sticky and they clean up nicely despite at least twice weekly wear :).
 
I love the Trizone ones (non aircooled) I use there boots for everything and love the fetlock boots too, had some great customer service from them too when some boots I brought (in correct size) rubbed my horse, they sent me a different type straight out!!
 
I use trizone ones, but if I hadn't brought those, I would have got eskadrons. They are the easiest to put on, fit well and are shaped at the back of the leg so they don't interfere when the horse tucks up it's legs.

I use the veredus for everyday (the old styly prolight ones) but got fed up with fiddling with the velcro straps on them!!
