My poor ol' tall boots should be replaced soon-ish...I was a bit hard on them a few years ago when I didn't have short boots/chaps for a while, and they aren't looking too fabulous these days.

My issue is that I have really long narrow feet and really long legs. My current boots are Ariat Challenge (a model not carried in the UK to my knowledge) with a Tall shaft of Narrow fit. Since I tend to wear fleece-lined breeches even in the summer in this cold, miserable country, I could probably get away with a Regular width shaft. In chaps, I tend to wear a small/tall.

I've tried on multiple tall boots in various saddleries, but no-one seems to carry the tall shafts! And forget about the foot part of the boot fitting; I don't think that'll happen without going custom, which my budget won't allow.

Anyone have any suggestions for what might work? Do I need to go try on boots in Germany (since that's where my legs came from)? Do British people really all have short, fat legs (looking at British riders would seem to suggest otherwise, but where do these people get their boots?)?

I tried on some Equetectors, which have alternatives for fit, but while I was pretty happy with their paddock boot, the tall boot looked rather clunky to me (I'm vain, too. Apparently.). Help! :o

That's the issue: no one seems to carry them with a tall/narrow shaft! I really don't want to buy boots online without having tried them on first.

Yes, I tried Bromonts. The Bromont doesn't appear to be carried in varying shaft heights in the UK, so that doesn't seem to be an option for me. That was the first boot I thought of, since it's the most similar to the ones I currently have. If anyone can point me in the direction of a stockist that carries various shaft heights and calf fittings in these, I'd be grateful.

Ariat bromonts are nice but I found them very baggy round the ankles, I can't pretend that I have particularly skinny calves but I do have thin ankles and have recently bought some ariat volant front zipped boots as they are the only thing tight enough around the ankle.

I now need a second pair for competing because my competition boots are nowhere near as nice to ride in

I also need a Small Tall (ST) in Ariat chaps and really did not think that off the peg boots would fit me but I love my Ariat bromont insulated boots! Much though I would love some for the summer however, the non insulated bromonts are too baggy for my skinny long legs, so have you tried both?

Of the Mountain Horse ones, only the Supremes seem to come in a full range of sizes. Maybe I can find some of the others to try on? The Tredstep look promising...but no stockists in this area, I think. Perhaps I'm doomed until I'm further south on business? With my difficulties with shoes, am really not keen on ordering/sending back, ordering/sending back. It would take years.

How tall are you ..? I have a 34" leg I'm 5ft10 and the regular fit me fine there 19" high , with 14.5" calf and believe me I've skinny calls but by time you out jods on there totally fine

Have you actually tried a pair on..?

I'm local to aberdeen and bought mine in hayfield

Norvite also stock them

I tried them (assuming you mean the Bromonts) in Norvite about 2 weeks ago...problem is that they adjust the width along with the foot size, so for example a size 4 foot has a smaller "regular" calf than a size 7 foot. I'm a size 7--7.5, but my calf is only 14". And that's my fatter leg. I'm only 5'5.5", but usually take a 34" leg. It's pretty ridiculous! They could order a pair in to try, but before I ask them to go to that effort, I want a pretty good idea that they have a chance of fitting. It's possible that the insulated ones would fit more snugly; that's worth a try when I next go up.

I'm 5ft10, 34" inside leg and size 8 with pipecleaner legs. I have and adore the Ariat Bromont Insulated. I'm normally a size 6.5 shoe so that's what I bought online. They fit me well but I can also get into my chums 5.5s.

Mine are regular leg length and height. They fit well.

Ps what fleece breeches do u wear?

PPs I'm Aberdeenshire too :)

What are your measurements?
I'm 51cm high (21") and about 33cm calf and it's a nightmare!

My only and I mean only option other than made to measure was MH Supreme High Riders, the tall narrow are like hens teeth to get hold of but I managed to find two pairs. (I outgrew foot size in first pair)
They are expensive but fit like a glove and no where near the price of M2M

Really depends on measurements - Ariat Bromonts were no good for me, not even de Niro/brogini/tredstep/parlanti mAde any boot long enough!

Wow, lots of Aberdonians with Bromonts on here! :o Seems I'll have to trek back to Norvite with my normal jodhs on and try on the insulated ones, to see if they fit better than the normal ones. If that doesn't work, need to find out where I can try on the MH Supreme and the Tredstep. Hopefully I won't have to wait until Blair! Any other brands that I've missed? Any people on the Continent willing to weigh in: I travel fairly often?

Well then they will fit you fine as I am a size 7, I've a 14" calf and inside leg of 34" and they fit perfect at 19" long.

That's the regular fit ones not wide.

So of you buy size 7 reg you won't have a issue.

I have a 34" inside leg and have just measured my calf at 13.75" (35cm) and the bromont insulated size 7s fit like a glove. I never want to take them off, they are so comfortable.

Ariat Bromonts do come up slightly big on foot size, I'm normally a size 7 but bought a 6.5 that fits fine.
The 6.5 is slightly narrower than the 7, so it may be worth trying on a slightly smaller size.

How about Rectiligne boots? They have them at Lochlands Equestrian. Not sure if that's near you.

Ariat Volants are soooo comfy. I have the front zip pair and the back ones are on my Xmas list. They are like slippers. Also De Niros come in loads of different heights and calf fittings.

I think the insulated Bromonts are narrower than the non insulated, they were when I tried some. I assume they have the same outer shell but the insulation takes up some of the width inside.

I have these (I'm not tall or skinny mind you) and can say that they are nice boots at least. Whether they exist in your size or not is another matter.

What do you want them for? I don't really think Bromonts are smart enough for competing...

I am tall with skinny calves and the only boots that have properly fitted me are my Sergio Grasso's - many different sizes/widths etc to choose from and true to sizing. Also they look as good as the day I bought them.

I have Regents (I think - they are that old I can't really be sure). I'm 5ft8, take a 34" inside leg and hover around a size 6-8 (I have finally accepted that I am not a 10, and cannot pretend to be without loosing my jeans every 5 mins).

Mine fit like a glove, so so so comfy even for 6 hours out hunting.
