I have NO experience on broken bones, nevermind recovery!!

I broke my talus bone and fibula on 11th July, when my friends youngster got confused who sat on who, and squished me!

It's been 14.5 weeks now, I get the impression over the next few weeks weight bearing will commence!

My physio said, IF everything goes well, NO hold ups or problems, weight bearing can take 6 weeks.

I know my competing jumping wise may be at standstill for quite a while, but, what about inhand showing with my youngster??

what do you think?

IF, all being well, do you think my ankle cope to do inhand showing from April onwards?? or too optimistic?

Or do I need to remove the rose tinted glasses??

I want to aim for a realistic goal, something to keep me going

I'd see how it goes, and how it feels... BUT even showing a youngster can get spooked and pull you over etc..... if you were to trip, land on said ankle you could cause more damamge.....

I think the key is to listen to your physio, to do the exercises and to build up the muscle strength carefully bringing it back into use without over doing it. I see no reason why not - friends daughter broke ankle 2 years ago and was back riding and trampolining in 6 months.

Lexiedhb, yeah, I know what you are saying! Rose tinted glasses are in place

this last year just gone I showed Rox inhand as a yearling in a halter, he's quite a laid back little chap and had impeccable manners.

Next year I intend to bit him, and show him in a bridle, but he will be two, do horses have 'troublesome two's' like children lol!!

I have many friends which will help me out. They won't let me overdo it I'm sure!

I wonder if I will be able to cope running wise?? In a trot round, and trot up situation??

Going to wear ankle support DEFINITELY and some good quality supportive boots DEFINITELY

That gives me hope (about your friends daughter), thanks for that, made me smile, ALOT xxxxx

I broke my Femur in June and was riding by August but I have pins holding bone together. I actually found riding helped strengthen the muscle before I could walk. I only walked for months as my horse was only in walk, now in trot and only had one canter on sisters pony. Biggest problem with riding is falling off, I dread the day I fall off again
I have found leading horses harder than riding as one simple spook and i've had 2 let go of horse so dont cause damage 2 myself.
I do think every break and person is different.

hmmmm that's interesting to know! I will have a word with my physio, see what they think!!

I use to be quite fearless about falling off, not in an arrogant sense, just the fact, (not until recently lol), I always came off uninjured and landed on my feet!!!!

Now I'm scared in case I land on my feet! I don't know how I do it, I don't intend on doing it, I just always manage to land on my feet! My friends say I'm like a cat!!!
