Tap covers

Our tap used to be free standing and we made a fabulous insulated ‘hat’ out of an old bin stuffed with hay etc that worked brilliantly in icy weather.

It has now been moved to a wall so the ‘hat’ is redundant and the little insulation jacket that we got for it doesn’t seem to do much.

Any recommendations for a good tap jacket to stop it freezing?

B&q do an insulated tap cover for less than £10 we use that and chuck and old rug over the top if it’s going to be really cold

We use two types..the white polystyrene box one with micro fibre cloth wrapped round tap first and the black pouch/mitten type that Velcro s on….they work most of the time.

An old exercise bandage with the twisty bit and the hole the water comes out of poking out then a bread bag over the top to keep it dry.

If you need to insulate the pipe bit too you could put a cut up chaff bag round and stuff with hay then wrap round and tie and tape it up? maybe? or an old turn out rug might work too.

OH made a cover for the tap by using an old supplement tub. He cut a slot in the side of the tub (round one) so that the tub hung over/down the tap. He then lined the tub with the grey lagging foam glued in place.

It cost virtually nothing, never blew off, tap never froze and lasted years.
