Well, I decided to take my own advice (don't always
) and had the pony stallion bloodtested for Tapeworm. Results came back on Wednesday and I am sure glad I did. He's loaded with them but at least it was not our grazing that was the source as its ancient pasture, used by sheep for a couple of hundred years, re-sown for horses about 4 years ago, poo-picked evry day since then when in use -- often rested -- and only 3 different equines on it in all that time.
So it was EquiMax for him on Wednesday evening (he was luckily very easy to dose (we haven't done this with him before) and it doesn't seem to have affected him in any way, which is a relief. The vet says he will need re-testing in May and we only need to worry if his score is still high then, but in the meantime I will be e-mailing the stud we got him from to suggest that a few tapeworn tests might be in order there too.
