After all the worry about Tarquin at his first show, he turned out to almost be an angel. Got up at 5.30am to go and get him ready and he was very good about being plaited up. Then he loaded like a dream, it helped as his girlfriend had gone on first! Then when we got there, the anticipated mad 5 minutes didn't happen, he got off the lorry looked about and started to graze! He did have a few nervous whinnying moments on the way to his first class but followed the other horses in and was very good walking around the working hunter jumps laid out for later in the day. He did a nice trot up and came 3rd in Inhand Hunter. Then we had a short break before Large Mountain and Moorland Large Breeds (including Partbreds) and again did a nice trot, just was a bit nappy going away from where our lorry was parked next to the ring. Judge said he was a lovely baby and we came 2nd. Then we had a long break to finish with Most Handsome Gelding, a silly class but good experience for him. He had a few funny moments inbetween when my friend took his girlfriend away for classes but settled well enough for me to be able to sit down holding him. I decided not to try to tie him up this time as the thought of a loose Mr T was not a good thought. Anyway we won the handsome gelding class and so qualified for two championships one for M&M and the Handsome Gelding. We didn't come anywhere but it was all good for him to learn to stand still.
So I am still alive and apart from a few squished toes will live to fight another day and I am sure Mr T has learnt an awful lot. He was not frightened of anyone at the show today and lots of people commented on how nice he was and patted him.
I spoke to one judge outside of the ring and she thought that he was definately a good hunter type, although maybe a little small at the moment for Small Hunter and workers, more of a SHP and WHP but I can't show him affiliated in these are next year as I'll be over 25.

But we'll see, he's still growing so might make a good 15.2 yet.
Here he is -

Such a huge change in the last six months from the skinny waif that I couldn't ride.

Love him so much but am very tired now!

Doesn't he look different! The bridle he is wearing is one of the Shadwell stallions (!) and boy did I need it, we had very poor steering but I managed to struggle along. Will give you a ring soon, probably this week.

Thanks everyone, was thinking of having another go in two weeks time, but his coat isn't great now as its on the turn and I will not stable him for the sake of showing into winter. But we may have a go at an Endurance at the end of October if he behaves himself between now and then!
