I have a grey mare who gets burnt in the summer - she is adept at removing her fly mask, and being spotty, she has pink skin in lots of places on her face, and around her eyes, not all of which is practical to apply sunblock to and I work shifts which means I can't always be there is the morning to apply it. She also has a very, very sensitive mouth due to some areas of pink skin on her lips and I wondered if these being tattooed would change their level of sensitivity?
I was reading about the practice of tattooing the pink skin black, especially around the eyes and it seemed like a good idea (in theory!)
Has anyone tried it or had any experience of it? And how on earth would I find someone to tattoo my horse?! (Not being the kind of person that has any tattoos of my own...)
Any ideas/info gratefully received....

In all honesty, I'm not sure its a good idea. Tattooing is quite painful (or at least I found it to be!), and round sensitive areas? You'd be looking at lot of sedation, and even if it worked, sore skin with scabs that is very easy to knock and bleed. I would get a loose cotton hood, like the ones you use to keep them clean before a show. I had a quick look and found this, if you scroll down you can see its an all in one fly hood. Hope this helps.
