Tattoos of Horses

I have a horse tattoo one the back of my left shoulder. It was done in just black ink, which I think looks really good. I found a picture in one of my books that I liked and the tattoo artist was fine with just copying it, he did a great job!

I always wanted a tattoo and one that meant something but couldn't think of anything until one day OH thought of a french link snaffle.

Really liked the idea and had it at the bottom on my back. OH also liked and had a matching one on his upper arm.
Would like one on my wrist (probably of a similar thing) but don't the pain put's me of :p

I would go tribal and look up celtic tattoos. I have one that is done in black and grey on the top of my left leg. I recently sold a novel based on celtic mythology, so I have the head and wings of a pegasus to symbolise writers but instead of a horse's body it has a celtic knot to symbolise the book. I love it and it is very easy to hide.

PS Spend a lot of time researching the tattoo artist and don't be cheap, get a good one.

Agree with researching a good artist. However, I don't think tribal and Celtic knotwork should be grouped together! Spend a while finding one you can live with, it is on your hide for a long time! And get it a decent size, nothing worse than an inkblot gone wrong!

The cost will depend very much on the size, whether it is colour or not, the amount of detail and how long it takes the artist to finish it. Start saving for the next one immediately, it is an addiction like no other! :D

I have a couple of tattoos already as it's something OH and I are both really into. We have found a brilliant artist and there's no stopping us now! I've always wanted a horse tattoo but it's taking me a long long time to figure it out as they so easily look tacky! I'm thinking just now about getting the uffington White horse or a Pictish (I'm Scottish btw!) horse head on my right wrist. My left wrist, foot and back are all already filled!

I have the ferrai prancing horse on my right shoulder, I am debating having another one done at the moment, but not sure what or where.

I really like the ones on the inside of wrists.......I have seen a couple of awsomeones recently while on holiday. One was on a really dainty looking lady, that had delicate angel wings over the whole of her back and the other was on a very built bloke that also had wings over his back but the feathers were much larger and prominent.

best of luck with your search! I would go into a few shops and ask them to sketch the tattoo for you, and then go for the quality and the general 'feel' of the place.

Diablos Gold, that is really nice!

I would like another tattoo, I've got my husbands name in Arabic on the inside of my wrist (to be fair it probably says something completely different, but to me it's his name :D

I'd like a 'horsey' themed one as well, but without anything too tacky. I like the thought of a snaffle on my lower back as somebody else further up said

When I was researching tattoos about 15 years ago, I wanted one like the Lloyds bank horse that was galloping flat out on the beach but could never find just what I wanted. So I typed in Black Beauty..... unfortunately it wasn't just horses that came up .....

Wow, love the tribal one!

Wow haven't been able to get on for a few days, thanks everyone for pics and replies. I have no idea how much tattoos cost, but you have given me some good ideas thanks. I will search the internet for images etc. I like the idea of a bit!

Hello :-)

My boyfriend works for a really well known artist in our area. Between him and his dad they have 5 shops the artists all charge between £60 to £90 per hour. Pete is just £60 but has only been tattooing for 3 years. Remember that if an artist is designing you an individual piece then this takes time too not just the time for the tattoo. He works 6 days a week and is often up well into the early hours doing drawings for people - most of his work is bespoke! In the olden days it just used to be tracings off the wall (flash) but that's not what people want anymore.

PS it hurts A LOT on your ribs !! x
