We have just picked up my new horse today and he has travelled really badly home. I have bought him off a dealer friend and she was told that he travelled in a trailer fine and was out only two weeks ago in a trailer. When we bought him home he has destroyed my tavel boots, rubbed his tail on the back ramp and has took all the skin off the top of his bum. He kept banging about even on the straight. My mumwho drove is fantastic with a trailer as we have travelled our horses from foals all over. We cannot understand what has upset him.

Has anyone got any ideas as I really don't want to have to send him back.

Is your trailer smaller than the one he was use to? Or is he not use to travel boots? My horse was awful too when I bought him. He destroyed his brand new horseware travel boots but luckily didn't injure himself. I spoke to the last owner and she said she had only ever used bandages on him and I knew from seeing it her horsebox was very roomy. I changed to bandages and knee boots and took the partition in the trailer out (Ifor Williams do bars to go across the whole width) and he improved greatly. Still not 100% but pretty good. Hope that helps.

Ok, just spoken to dealer friend to be told he always travels on the left with boots and a haynet. They have never had any trouble with him. Now I always travel a single horse on the right. He will travel on the left if he goes out with my other horse but if I take him out on his own will it be safe to travel him on the left by himself in the trailer?
