I've had my ex-racer a year and I've never felt entirely happy with his food regime as I try to change it as little as possible but in the summer I had a horse that needed a lot of leg and was so laid back he was almost horizontal and now I've got an animal that is starting to get quite fizzy.
I don't compete him yet but he is fit and well muscled. I hack him for approx 1.5- 2 hrs twice a week and try to school him for 30-45 mins 3 times a week. He is out at night in the summer and in for the night during the winter.
He has between 1- 1.5 slices of haylage per day as he won't eat hay at all.
In the summer
1 scoop of alpha-a
top spec lite (following instructions for quantities)
a couple of chopped apples
half a scoop of slow energy release pony cubes
Now because of the cold he has added to that a scoop of dobson & horell sugarbeet pulp.
He looks absolutely fabulous and certainly enjoying his work more but I don't want to get him any sharper than what he is now so do I need to adjust anything?
He is 10 and is 15.3.hh
