TB in poor condition - Advice Please!!

Been watching this thread for a couple of days - just want to say to you, well done, and hope that it all goes upwards for you. Such a shame that you had such a bad start, but so good to know that even a first time owner KNOWS when there is something wrong. I know it can be hard having seen them on a daily basis to notice a change. You did good

Dear All

Have just read all you posts and pm's since mine this morning and its literally brought tears to my eyes. Thank you all so much.

I have been to see him again tonight and I am so happy - he feels like mine for the first time since I bought him. He's getting lots of attention and thriving on it and his new environment. He's got the end stall so he gets to see all the comings and goings which he loves as he's such a sociable boy!

Did get another shock though after weight taping them both. George (my boy) only weighs 414kg. When I bought him 5 months ago he was 458kg and underweight then after being turned out. Chester (my sister's 16hh hanoverian) is only 500kg - a drop of about 40kg since his saddle was fitted in December. And this is a horse who has NEVER dropped weight in winter.

As you can imagine, we are both absolutely fuming - I can't write on here the words that spring to mind about the last YO and her so called ability. I am very very tempted to name and shame on here but I know admin are quite strict about anything like that so don't want to get kicked off here after making so many lovely contacts!! If anyone wants to know who was responsible pls email me at gemsy_m@hotmail.com (so its kept totally away from the forum and pm's) and I'll be happy to tell you.

I contacted the BHS but as the YO hasn't paid to be on their register they can't tell me whether she has passed any exams due to data protection. Also because of this, they can't take any formal action against her. They did take her website address but she has been very careful only to refer to herself as the "qualified owner" - she doesn't actually say in writing she's an AI which makes me suspicious. Also, thinking back, she didn't have her certificates on display at all, which, given the sort of person she is, seems a bit odd. The AI assurances were all verbal so there's very little the BHS can do. Incidentally, the YO is 23 so if she is qualified its not as if her training would be out of date.

I will keep you all updated. And I promise I will get round to replying to all the pm's eventually!! x

I was thinking about this again this morning.

I have to say in your shoes - I would be tempted to take some legal advice on the neglicence aspect of all of this......

I would be contacting the ILPH or the local BHS welfare representative and sending them in to inspect other horses on that yard asap!!!!

You have done the right thing in moving your horse and I hope he makes a speedy recovery!

As for your old YO..... if that is her standard of care, then god help anyone who stables at that yard.... Had that have been one of my horses, I wouldn't have been sharing choice words, She would be needing an ambulance! (and I hope you print this out so she can read it, because many of us now know exactly who she is!)
