Hey all, hoping someone may be able to help...

I have a TB mare who recently came back from loan on very, very short notice (1 week!) and I had to find someowhere to put her, so she has gone out on grass livery... which was all well and good uptil this week...

She was roughed off as soon as she went there and was de-rugged to grow a coat. She currently has a lightweight rug on. The field is protected by very, very high hedges and there is also a wooded area where the herd can go should they want further protection.

They are checked two-three times daily and given hay if necessary when it snows, but rugs aren't taken off and put on again.

For this reason, I'm looking to get an anti-rub bib and wondered if anyone can reccommend a good one to be used underneath a turnout rug, no buckles and belys, but which will not move or slid back and dig in?

She is a high-withered TB mare, and rugs can tend to slip on her and I want to make sure she is as comfortable as possible.

Also, I was going to get her a super-dooper-ultra-thick all-in-one rug, but then thought about it and this woulnd't be the best idea, as on a warm day she will overheat very quickly if the saun comes out and then not feel the benefit of it in the evening anyway.

Due to this, I'm not looking for a good middleweight rug, something that isn't going to get wet and heavy on her, rugged enough to put up with being worn every day and rolled about in etc, but doesn't cost the Earth.

I couldn't afford to keep her, which was why she was on what was meant to be a full, permanent loan so now I feel guilty about making her live out for the first time in her life in what is looking like being one of the worst winters we;ve had in a long time.

Any thoughts/suggestions on bibs and rugs would be great.

Hopefully I will have found her a new, perfect home by this time next year so won't have to worry about this again!

The horseware Rhino is good on my TB, she has high withers and big shoulders. Also you can add and remove additional liners to suit the weather as well as the hood being detachable. Should last a while too.

My TB mare where's a Weatherbeeta Orican with high neck, she has had it about 4 winters now and have found them to be great. I just bought a ew Orican with full neck on ebay for 64.99 for a different horse, so should get a high neck for less than that hopefully on ebay!

Derby House have a rug sale on today I think, well I got an email from them earlier saying so! Not sure which rugs they have on offer though.

I think that bossy's bibs are great, I think that they sell them through snuggy hoods. Really thin and lightweight and fit nicely.

Another vote for Premier Equine. Love their rugs, reasonable, durable and warm.

Would buy them over every other make.

My TB is spending his first winter out is wearing a weatherbeeta orican. He has had this for 6 years now and still looks brand new and fits perfectly. He also has a mark todd full neck h/w as well and this also fits him well. Neither of these rub him.

My TB mare is out in her Weatherbeeta Orican combo.
She is coping just fine in the temps we are getting which is minus 17 at the moment.
Weatherbeeta rugs never rub my TB.

I've got 2 TB mares out 24/7 in the (deep) snow, they have weatherbeeta orcian full neck rugs on. They do fit really well and the tail flaps are excellent, give loads of protection. I bought a PE rug for one of these mares this year (a lightweight) and it is a good rug, but the silly animal managed to attach herself to the fence by the rug (leaning over to eat grass it clipped onto the top wire), twice, and ripped it.

Premier Equine OR Rhino Wug or full neck...I LOVE the fit of both...Rhinos are very light to carry which is a massive bonus! They get my vote.

I find the Rhinos come up small so Iv got up a size and it fits perfectly!

Bossy bibs were great on my TB mare, the amigo or horseware rugs fit her perfectly too. She live sout all year and only has a lw amigo on at the moment :)

Wow, it's nice to know that so many other people keep their TB's living out in this weather...I feel decidedly curel at the moment as I wont venture out and was feeling bad at making her live out in it... but you've all reassured me that I'm not the only one doing this and it's great to hear that all your horseys are keeping nice and warm.

I will definately invest in a bossy bib as all seem to think they are great, they look safest to me as well as don't have buckle etc that could rub her.

Looks like there are some rugs that I should definately look at and that you all swear by...I will be attacking the Internet this weekend and seeing what eBay has to offer.

Thanks to you all for your reccommendations :)

JHL or Mark todds as they have lovely long necks. I have found horsewear's aren't long enough in the neck for my for my tb.

Shires do some rub vests.
