Hey all, hoping someone may be able to help...
I have a TB mare who recently came back from loan on very, very short notice (1 week!) and I had to find someowhere to put her, so she has gone out on grass livery... which was all well and good uptil this week...
She was roughed off as soon as she went there and was de-rugged to grow a coat. She currently has a lightweight rug on. The field is protected by very, very high hedges and there is also a wooded area where the herd can go should they want further protection.
They are checked two-three times daily and given hay if necessary when it snows, but rugs aren't taken off and put on again.
For this reason, I'm looking to get an anti-rub bib and wondered if anyone can reccommend a good one to be used underneath a turnout rug, no buckles and belys, but which will not move or slid back and dig in?
She is a high-withered TB mare, and rugs can tend to slip on her and I want to make sure she is as comfortable as possible.
Also, I was going to get her a super-dooper-ultra-thick all-in-one rug, but then thought about it and this woulnd't be the best idea, as on a warm day she will overheat very quickly if the saun comes out and then not feel the benefit of it in the evening anyway.
Due to this, I'm not looking for a good middleweight rug, something that isn't going to get wet and heavy on her, rugged enough to put up with being worn every day and rolled about in etc, but doesn't cost the Earth.
I couldn't afford to keep her, which was why she was on what was meant to be a full, permanent loan so now I feel guilty about making her live out for the first time in her life in what is looking like being one of the worst winters we;ve had in a long time.
Any thoughts/suggestions on bibs and rugs would be great.
Hopefully I will have found her a new, perfect home by this time next year so won't have to worry about this again!
