I WAS THINKING POSSIBLY SUGARBEET OR SOMETHING ANY IDEAS MUCH APPRECIATED

Have you got grazing? Try letting her graze and leave the hay in the field as well. You could try haylage.
Pony nuts might put some weight on. I use Equimins feed balancer, it has put top line on my lad.
Sugar beet is well worth a try.
I assume she is wormed?

yes she has turnout with plently of graze but struggles to stop out longer than 2 hours even with company as she begins to gallop about. She is wormed regulary as well

she is fed on both hay and haylage as she gets refuses to eat loads of either but eats little and often., if over faced with big nets she refues to eat and just picks at it

Has she got any vices?
Can you feed her alfa a instead off hi fi? If she can cope with alfa a. Up the linseed and what about yea sac for her stomach?

We bought an ex racer 3 weeks ago who needed a lot of condition, we put her on 3 or four small meals a day. Each meal had one scoop of Allen and page calm and condition, half of unmolassed chaff and half of conditioning cubes with 75ml of soya oil in each feed and it has done wonders for her in a short space of time, putting on quite a bit of weight and muscle is developing well!

I would definitely consider changing to calm and condition as it does contain some sugar beet. It's been great for my tb mare and hasn't sent her loopy! The soya oil has been like gold dust to her, really kick starting the weight gain and her coat is very shiny and healthy to say the least. There are mint flavoured soya oils out there for the fussy eater! Hope this helps... Good luck! :)

Whys she galloping around in the field? You need to get the environment around her consistent to stop her fretting her weight off. That may mean changing to a Yard better suited to her needs.

my money would be on her having ulcers. Ex racers are massively high risk for this and it stops them putting on condition. I would speak to your vet about it and see what they think, but it sounds like it's a strong possibility to me!

My boy was losing condition and had no other symptoms except being a bit girthy, I had a hunch it was ulcers. Everyone rolled their eyes at me and thought I was paranoid - persuaded vet to scope, and lo and behold, ulcers! Two weeks into treatment and he's gaining weight nicely :)

thankyou Ghostie

you were bang on right

chose to have a mobile vet with a scope rather than travel her and cause more stress --it was easier at home and the pictures (which i will post when i get round to it )were crystal clear

it turns out she as 2 grade 3 ulcers and is now on gastroguard
how long did it take for you to see any change

Hi there.

The feed you're giving her isn't really designed for weight gain. I'd swap to D&H Build Up or Baileys Conditioning Cubes - feeding the same quantities you are at the moment.

I'd also swap the chaff for Alfa A.

I'd also be really trying to up her intake of roughage. Either turn her out for longer in a paddock with loads of grass, or try giving her ad lib haylage, from the floor of her stable rather than in a hay net.

Without wishing or meaning to sound horrible, I'm not surprised she's not putting on weight, given her current diet. I do think you need to change ASAP to a conditioning feed. And if you're worried it'll make her sharper - just give it a go. Often underweight TB's are a lot sharper than when they are carrying condition.
