hi i have posted quite a lot re my tb who is very prone to weight loss/colic , has had full work ups done and been to leahurst also , there are changes on his abdomen but nothing major , also fits when colics, basically his colci can be medically managed but the big thing is the weight loss, we have discussed surgery numerous times but i feel i do not want to put him through surgey at 18 and we may still never find a reason why he colics, he is very bright and eating and working very well has grass few hours a day as doesnt like going out that much ad lib haylage and 2x feeds chop alfa beet and readymash extra , my main cocnern is he drops his weight very quickly , he can look good for few weeks and then drops the weight but staying very happy in himself , i just want to to what is bets for him and ensure he has a good quality of life feeling very sad at the minute xxx

When I'm trying to put weight on my TB I go for many small fibre based feeds with plenty of linseed and some oats. Find it works wonders! I've recently done a course of Egusin and put him on yea sacc, which has improved his metabolism, as well.

I agree with linseed I used to use baileys no 1 on my TB mare split into three to four feeds a day and ad lib hay.
My mare was awful with weight and coliced a lot, it turned out she had a strangulated hernia but that's what my vet advised

Id have him off the alfalfa a lot of horses dont get on with it and can cause stones in the gut if fed long term.

Can I suggest you ring Debbie, the nutritionist at Thunderbrooks, it tends to suit TB's/poor doers, is all organic and irritant free :)

my TB is on adlib haylage in winter, and then when it gets really cold he is on 2 scoops of soaked sugar beet, a mug of linseed and a tablespoon of brewers yeast twice a day, he maintains superb condition on that,

mine is ad lib hay pegasus nuts and hifi-lite and does super well. He has good grass too. Maybe I'm just lucky but this is our first winter so we shall see.

Micronised linseed, you can buy a 20 kg bag from Charnwood mills. Mine gets fast fibre and linseed twice a day, 24/7 turn out and ad-lib hay when required.

He was previously on conditioning feeds and when I change his feed to current format that's when he started putting on condition.

Can't recommend the linseed enough, good for guts and putting on the condition and he loves it.
