Would anyone know of any TB stallions standing in Oxfordshire? I've found one I want to go and see, but I'd like a choice if possible. All the good ones are miles away!

Any suggestions welcome, many thanks.

What are you looking for a TB stallion for eg Eventing, jumping etc. What type of mare, good/bad points? Does it have to be natural covering is that why only Oxfordshire? The more info you give us the more replies you will get!:)

She's ID x TB, 17.1 and looking to breed an eventer / RC allrounder for me to keep. She's big, so a smaller TB would be preferable, good confirmation and temperament are of course a must. Points to improve on her, a strong hind leg and needs good feet!

I've looked on the internet and only found one that I'd go and see, in fact the only one in Oxfordshire by the looks of things! I've looked online and although there are fantastic TB stallions around they are all too far from me. Tried last year with AI and it didn't work out so we are going to try natural this year.

I've thought of warmblood or warmblood x but she needs more blood to fine out a bit.

Here's a couple of pics of her, she's the bay, hope they work:

Sorry, this one might be a bit dark

Any suggestions gratefully received! Where are they all hiding?

Many thanks..

Only TB stallion I could find in Oxfordshire was Kirkwall at Conduit Farm Stud.

Is that the one you are going to see? He has a lot os white about him and his sire is known for getting LOTS of white. If that is of any help for you!

BTW I think a TB would be an ideal choice for you mare. She looks a good type and a bit of TB should get something really smart IMO

Thanks Jamana. No idea how you found that! I have come across Conduit Stud but they're a bit out of my price range. I only wish...

The one I want to go and see is down in Wantage at North Farm Stud. Although as I said I would prefer to have a choice!

So any further suggestions for TB stallions in Oxfordshire anyone?

Looking through the TB Stallion guide I can't find anything in Oxford. I can only find Kirkwall in the 2009 stallion guide. But I think Jamana is in the TB world so they may be able to advise you on this stallion. Another to ask is SN on here.

But as far as your mare goes I would go for a leggy TB. She look very nice and a quaility TB would be fantastic on her. Like above do you have to have a stallion from Oxford. I will have a look for a stallion closer for you.

So we have a choice of:

BERKSHIRE
DEVON
HAMPSHIRE
SOMERSET
WILTSHIRE
GLOUSTERSHIRE
HEREFORDSHIRE
WARWICKSHIRE

Have a look at this, you can search by county.

Rememebr, the fees shown are for full TB's, if you ring they would prob be negotiable on price for a non-TB. You will still need all of the swabs though.

Victory Note and Septieme Ciel (Both at Dairy House in Wilts) are good looking sorts. Dancing Spree (Manor House) is by Nijinsky so should throw some size.

Not sure but have Alvescot stud got a tb stallion? Yahoo them and have a look. I had heard some nice things about them and a friend bought a very nice youngster from them.
Good luck

Excellent website Jamana! Thanks for the link! And I didn't think about reduced fees for non thoroughbred, wicked!

I'm in West Oxfordshire so the further counties like Berkshire, Devon, Somerset and Herefordshire are too far. Alvescott are just down the road. They've got a lovely ID x TB but I'm looking for full TB, I don't want to risk a throwback to the ID side, although I'll love it whatever.

She's just had her swabs and blood test so results will be back next week, shouldn't be any problems as she was only AI'd last year.

I guess I've been too caught up in the search for an 'event' stallion, and seriously I've spent hours looking for TB stallions locally, well less than an hour away. So I'm going to spend a few more hours yet looking through the list on the website, another late night ;)

Thanks everyone for your ideas and help. I'll let you know when I've made a shortlist :)

Glad you found it useful.

Looking forward to seeing your shortlist!

It is getting late in the season for full TB's now, so you should find the studs quite accommodating regards price as they are quieter and will be pleased to get even a partial fee.

Thanks for all your replies and the links. Shortlist was shortened to Dancing Spree, she's going down there on Monday :)

Here's a link, hope it works.

He's got good confirmation, clean legs, and is in unbelievable condition. One of the things that decided it for me is that although he is 25, no way does he look it. I wasn't sure what to expect after seeing the photo on the link but his condition is like a 3 year old's!! I'm not sure if I can post the pictures I took. I saw a couple of his youngsters when I was at the stud and they were both good sorts.

Just goes to show the older stallions shouldn't be discounted, he's certain to improve my mare and also has the breeding I want.

Fingers crossed she'll take this year.

Just a word of caution, my sister chose to use an older TB stallion & did not realise that his fertility had lowered with age. He failed to get her mare in-foal & I believe there were other mare owners who had issues as well. Hopefully this is not a problem for you.

Good luck i have a mare by Dancing Spree and she is stunning.
He stands at a very knowlegable stud so you should get on just fine.
