Hi All,

I have a 8 yr old TB who I am slowly bringing back into work after a winter break.

I am worried that he will go into spring with too much weight on. His ribs are covered, just lacks topline through lack of work.

I know someone who has suggested he may be too well going into spring. At the moment he is on a scoop of chaff and mug of balancer twice a day and 4 sections of hay.

Any advice as I dont want spring to "push him over the edge".

Thanks xx

I wouldn't be too worried about him being overweight unless he is really fat, do you have any photos?

If you are bringing him back into work after a break then any excess will develop into muscle so its good if he is well covered. It doesn't sound like you are over feeding him, i wish i could keep my TB on just chaff and a balancer!!

I would just play it by ear, he may need more feed when he's back in work, or if he continues to pile the weight on then you could reduce his feed rations and grass/ hay.
