TBC BE June 2013 Scotland mystery date/venue

Wherever it is I'll grab it with both hands thank you very much!!

Possibly a placeholder for CSHT as they are looking for a new venue, later than Scone (1) date though. I really hope a new location is found...the plot thickens!!:D:confused:

yes I think holding the date hoping to replace Balcarres - if you click into the link there are several mentions of Balcarres and James Oakden is the organiser. Of course this doesn't mean they have actually found anywhere yet!

I heard a rumour that the dates had been given to someone not James Oakden despite him trying to find an alternative venue.

These were the other Scottish dates I could find but of course may not be correct and finalised yet!

Yes there is nothing on the link for me either - the list is due to be published 1 November. By fiddling with some links I was able to find some dates BUT there is no guaranteeing theses will be the finalised ones!! Is there any in particular you are keen to know about?

U really are a dark horse...think you should be promoted to Yoda status!! The link doesnt show any fixtures at all now!

What do people think the reasons are for JO having Scone pulled from under him & Balcarres cancelled forever in the same week? Are they connected or is it just a coincidence that JO organised both? Must go down as one of the most disappointing weeks in his career regardless

I think it will be coincidence TBH as no one could dispute the awful summer we had and the damage that must have been caused at these venues (from the Game Fair in Scone's place rather than the event).
Though maybe his suggestion that a Novice entry plus start fee should be £150 has not made him flavour of the month either :D

I can assure you there are no "reasons" behind James Oakden being behind both CSHT and Balcarres going in the same week other that rotten luck! James is the most enthusiastic organiser I have come across and is still totally committed to finding a new venue for CSHT. Given the bad luck he has had this year and given he makes no financial gain I am surprised he is still so enthusiastic!!

I read the article about entry fees, competitors won't pay the figures he was quoting, it just doesnt stack up when compared to other disciplines/competitions but I see his point that events rarely breakeven and only the really lucky ones make a profit with current entry fees.

I don't know what the answer is, most of us event for the thrill of XC and that is what trashes the ground at many venues (as well as the machinery required to move fences & prepare courses), grass does recover though.

Who knows what 2013 will bring, I'm hearing from many fellow competitors that they might not register with BE and just compete on tickets at a handful of events, further damaging the income from entry fees and likelihood of events running in future years.

On a positive note DBH, seeing your list of the events in Scotland for next year has fair cheered me up!! :D

Ah - no none in particlular, we are out through injury for the foreseable future but was trying to stay positive and work out were we may be able to get to. At least now I dont have to continually check site as you have let me know it will be published 1st Nov - thanks! :D

Unfortunately I believe JO was misrepresented and quoted incorrectly within the article in HHO - the eventing spread within the Courier newspaper - local to all these venues - was considerably more accurate with regards to figures and statistics which were actually lower....
I echo gracemoran's comment on the previous page - without JO and his teams that put in the hard work at both Balcarres and CSHT, the sport in Scotland would be a far poorer place.
Those that do not understand simply need to join a committee to comprehend the sheer extent of man hours that are ploughed in to create and sustain an event for absolutely no personal financial benefit whatsoever - unlike south of the border and by organisers such as BEDE who run events for a living - JO, David Reid, James Helyer etc are all farmers who voluntarily give up their free time for eventers to be able to compete within the sport in Scotland. They don't make any profit whatsoever and do not charge for their time and we would be nowhere without their combined efforts.

I wish BE in England understood how things actually happen in scotland - I have no faith that they do at all...

Oh and the Game Fair did run on the friday - helluva mess...I was there. It was ridiculous!

The H+H article was wrong in other places not just the figures. They got Lady Balniel's name wrong too. I am slightly dismayed by people's comments on James Oakden, how much work do you think he did to keep CSHT running each year and to create Balcarres in a matter of months. It was the damage done to the estate that has caused the abandonment in future years. And trust me - I was there - the estate was a mud bath.

Its interesting though that someone is new to the forum and their location is central scotland - and one of the first things they have said is to insinuate that JO was the reason for two very good events cancelling

Personally I loved CSHT and their organisation, it was an extremely well run event so I hope JO and his team find another venue to continue their fab work.

I am not sure the poster was particularly suggesting anything untoward re JO just speculating as many people do on here.
I made a joking reference to the prices in the HHO article (hence the smileys ;) ) but in all seriousness if eventing ever did go up to those kind of prices I would have to give it up personally whether misquoted or not and whoever suggested them. As I said I completely understand the long term damage that has been caused to land this year 9and previous ones it has been a cumulative effect) and I could not blame a land owner for wanting to pull out even if the nicest organiser in the land was running it!

I am not sure BE really understand Scottish eventing at all sadly - I thought the JAS classes might be nice to have a go at this time as my horse will have had a long break but I think the most Northerly venue is Bishop Burton - which is 3 hours south for me

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! No insinuation intended re: JO being the reason that the venues have been pulled, just curious as he a common link between the 2 organising committees and it was shocking news to most of the eventing community in Scotland. Can only imagine how devastated James must be.

I think I read somewhere that CSHT had recently invested heavily into the ground maintenance at Scone and that no prior warning had been given that the venue wouldn't be used again for BE. Can only assume that the revenue from things like REWIND festival and other fairs make more return on investment.

I do not underestimate the personal commitment from committee members and event organisers. I have competed and helped at Scone for years and was also at Balcarres so I saw the gound deteriorate in front of my eyes whilst stood at the National dressage arenas in horizontal rain. I heard over my radio that I would not need to plait up that night as the Sunday had been cancelled.

Please forgive my insufficient application of smilies, no personal judgement being made to the friends of James, he is in the public eye whether its good or bad PR. I'm gutted that one of my favourite venues and what I'd hoped would become the "Next Blair (but even more local)" are now off the BE Scotland calendar. I wait with anticipation on the 2013 fixtures :)

Sorry! there are quite a few gremlins that lurk on these forums and they are just out to be mean to others so apologies that my first thought was that you were one of them!

Hoping that JO and CSHT get another fixture! :)
