What clip will you do on your TB this year in relation to workload? Pics if you have them!

I am undecided with India, inspiration needed please :)

If Bally's back in full work (up to an hour a day, 6 days a week) this winter I'll be clipping him out completely. Last year was a nightmare - sweat in places I didn't know COULD sweat .

I have seen another thread that seemed to suggest clipping them out was a bad idea, I wasnt wanting to spill my plans and get told off but I was siding toward a full clip, well a hunter. I hacked out last night for about an hour mostly in trot with bits of walk and canter which I do approx 3 times a week and school (1 pole, 1 flat) twice, lungeing once and then one day off. Do you think this warrents a full clip? She was hot last night but I did put a rain sheet on too.

mine hasn't been clipped at all for the 2 years i've had him, firstly because I ride in the evenings after work during the week so he never really gets sweaty apart from if we have a lesson at the weekend.

secondly I'm a bit worried about him getting a wee bit fresh if he gets chilly lol.

thirdly, he does drop condition over the winter and will hype up on anything at all so i'm very careful with his feed. I'd prefer him to be fuzzy and fat than half decent looking and skinny lol.

Saying that, I was very tempted to do a chase clip once he comes in for the winter, or do more in January as I can't stand moulting and he does look so fluffy and fuzzy and we do most of our dressage competitions in the winter. Nightmare to keep clean as well.

Thanks! Yeah that was last November time-ish :) He's rugged up at the minute and keeping his coat at bay a bit, so hopefully won't have to clip him till about the same time....longer the better lol, less rugging layers!!

I used to have everything except legs clipped off Adrian my ISH, and this will be my first winter with a TB.

Adrian really used to fluff up & end up a sweaty mess without a full clip, but Trev's winter coat is looking fine & silky, so I'm going to start with a trace leaving the head on apart from the jaw, & see how we go.

He will stay in work & competing all winter, & will be living out with a field shelter & well rugged.

My TB mare can lose condition if she gets cold so I just do a blanket clip on her - we hunt regularly so she needs a fair bit off but this keeps her back/bum toasty! My native boy has a full clip as he gets sooooo hairy and has enough condition to insulate a whale :)
