TB's whats your view?

I love Tbs but then Im a racing fan, what I love about them apart from their sheer beauty they have a brain. In my experience they are liable to be one step ahead and its this that I love but they are sharp enough to get you out of trouble whereas a plod would down tools.

We have just loaned a lovely TB. He is an ex-racer and since he's been off the track he's only hunted. He has the nicest temperament and although is sharp to hack (ie if there is a plastic bag flapping) he never spooks for no reason (ie a different shade of grass!) Love him!

True, but maybe not always the case, so what i would say to the OP is find a TB with a good sense of 'self preservation' which i know sounds a little strange as they are breed for speed based on their quick 'flight not fight response', therefore all should have the self preservation gene.

But I used to have 2 TB's in the yard (sadly now only one and a sheltand!). One was always injuring himself the other never did. Now i wouldn't say that one was more highly strung than the other its just that if they were in the same situation say standing next to a fence and they got spooked one would go sideways but the other one would spook into the fence and injure himself, and he was like this for all situations. He wasnt a stupid horse, quick learner and all but no sense of self preservation what so ever.

But then i suppose you could say this for all breeds... so OP please ignore my ramblings, go get a TB and have the best time of your riding life :D as i can't recommend them enough as they excell in all disiplines.

I've got two ex-racers and I wouldn't have anything else. Mine are both stressy if in the stable block on their own and they both prefer to live out rather than be in, but they are the most fantastic horses - safe to hack, quick learners and just absolute gems.

My sister bought a TB just over two months ago, and I've mentioned it before....a viewing elsewhere put her in A and E and severely knocked her confidence....

This mare, although forward-going, is bombproof in traffic, the heaviest doesn't bother her at all.

Me sis is having regular lessons and is now jumping, leg-yielding, working in an outline, counter-canters etc etc etc....

Lots said 'oh, it'll be too much for you.....you will regret it...they are nutters'.....

Yeah...right!

Took her for her vaccs tonight. Loads perfectly, stood in the trailer not moving a muscle waiting on the vet to come out of the surgery....didn't flinch when injected......

Soooooo easy to handle too, a dream of a horse.

This mare has blown her stereo-type clear outta the water!

:D

I love my girl, can be a bit stressy but settles if i ignore it, i agree less is more when riding her, nothing can touch her under saddle, jumps for fun and moves like s**t of a shovel xc :) she can be a bit princessy, but id put up with that for the ride she gives

I don't understand why people don't like TB's (apart from perhaps the build, we all go for different looking horses I know) but then you get some heavy types and some lighter ones, some TB's don't even look like TB's, some horses that are not TB's can be mistaken for a TB, I think sometimes it's just all in the person's head!

Their a horse just like any other horse, some a big soft dosile creatures that plod along, others are more highly strung, intelligent and need a job, same with any breed though, it's how they have been brought up, trained, fed, the breeding, so many facters to come into it.

I like TB's :D but I also like every other breed too.

My boy's a TB
He's got awful feet and is flighty and excitable, but he looks after himself just fine.
He's wintered out in a field every year before I got him (this year) with no feed or rug, and he's come in in spring time looking in better condidition than lots of the heavier cob/hunter types. He also seems to heal quickly, he fights constantly in the field and is forever getting new cuts, and *touch wood* they've never got infected and have all healed up really well =]

I used to loan a tb x connemara and he was fizzy and bonkers and soo fast and he was 20 then i started riding a 11 year old and she was a dream, it just depends on the horse!

Mostly, I love them. They're (largely) intelligent, talented and sensitive beasties that would give you the world if you asked for it. Of course there are some homicidal stressheads, but you get those in every breed!

Genrally love them, mine have all been sharp, happy to work and quite learners. However I've seen so many novices partnered with off the track tbs and they get a bad rep- not fair. Everyone should be capable of riding what they are sat on,no matter what breed
