Does anyone have any tips for teaching a horse to stand up correctly for the judge in a showing class? My horse always seems to stand awkwardly in hand and no amount of stepping forward or backwards seems to help. Under saddle he halts perfectly square but in hand he won't do this, never mind the perfect stance with the legs nearest the judge further apart. It's such a shame because he is lovely horse with loads of presence and great under saddle but doesn't show himself off in hand at all.
Thanks

I practised with my youngster at the yard and just used to use the cane to push the shoulder of the leg you wanted to go back to straighten up. I found if you pushed her back with the filly slip she would stand awkward. So a bit of pressure with the cane helped me.

You have probably already tried that but this is my experience :D
