Hello all

I've been having a look at this forum for years now so feel like I know you all anyway! I've been riding all my life and have a traditional Irish cob who I've owned for 12 years.

The question I have is related to teaching riding. I've been teaching through a riding school since I left school so never had to worry about insurance as it was done through the business. I have qualified as a history teacher and no longer teach through the riding school but through word of mouth I have a few people who want me to freelance teach them on their premises. I was wondering if any of you lovely people could help me or advise me as the best way to protect myself. Usually I teach friends but recently friends og friends have wanted lessons and the last thing I need is a court case on my hands. Any help appreciated!
Thanks

Hi, are you a BHS qualified instructor? If so, you can join the Register of Instructors which you are then insured through. You have to maintain a first aid qualification, child protection course + regular training organised by BHS to qualify to be on their register. If not, you need to ring round the insurance companies and get some quotes!

I'm not BHS qualified and I teach almost full time, I'm insured through KBIS (via julie andrews horse insurance) to teach people on their own horses at any premesis.

If you're unsure what cover you'll need contact the people at julie andrews, I found them very helpful, and they found me the cheapest quote for my requirements which was kbis.

Or PM me i'll see if I can help.
