Had a jumping lesson the other day, and one of the things my instructor had me doing was verbally telling Danny to 'woah' (or just 'STOP ffs!!'
) after each jump, as he has a tendency to run on and not slow down at all, which makes doubles... interesting
I was wondering though, how can I reinforce this command best? I'm thinking it could be VERY handy if I can teach him to stop/slow down a lot on command so hopefully when we next try XC, he will a) stop after fences and b) stop when he decides to take off after a horse he's seen a mile away!
(well, that's the theory
)
I also found that doing this helped stop me tensing up so much, which is great! I automatically cant talk if I'm tense, for some reason, so it sort of counters it somehow...
Any ideas??
