I would love to have a got at team chasing and enter some hunter trials, the problem is a) i don't know where they do these in my are and b) i don't know what time of year they tend to be on?
Help anyone? :o

They have finished for the year now i think. Check the MFHA website for team chase events or alternatively look on the PC website diary if you want to start smaller. :) its great fun.

Oh and sorry hunter trials look on pc website too and also on local venue websites. I run a hunter trial for my pc its at the end of march this time round and is the earliest one we do. :)

thank you :) i just wondered, i have never been team chasing before so would it be better if i joined a team that has had experience already or would it be ok to make my own team? i have 3 friends who'd want to do it with me but non of us has any experience at all :o so what do you think would be best?
and what sort of height does it usualy start at? :)

You would probably struggle to find an 'experienced' team looking for a new member at low levels as most people tend to move up. I went for the first time with friends who had never been before we did a PC one which I think starts at 80cm we did the 1m which was a doddle. Then did a pairs with friend which was a novice with the mfha that was much bigger and required bolder horses but still fab fun :). For PC all you really need is horses who have popped round some xc before with one who is happy to lead (try this before you go as its different to just going on their own- leading can be very scary! :D) and one who is good to stand so rider can open and shut gate. Leader should set the pace if its your first time set it at a slow gallop and remember to take nice wide turns/ come back a little earlier than normal for fences and jump straight so the person behind you can pick a straight line to ride. Try not to go too slow/ drop back to trot as it can cause disarray behind! Be aware someones horse may not like being behind so they may pass you! Have fun :) you can work on setting a faster pace after your first competition and besides with PC its usually just a timed gate section rather than the whole thing being timed. The most important thing is to set a consistent rhythm and not drift across other peoples lines and enjoy :). I want to start doing bigger classes next season and will be looking for at least 1 person to join us at that level so think we are likely going to have to put an advert up :) hopefully someone will want to join as my mare is happy to be lead horse (though can also follow) and my friends is happy to go middle or last. The open classes at mfha are just plain scary! Go to watch though its fab :) i want to complete one one day but my friend swears blind shes not doing it with me so Id have to find a whole new team! Got plenty of time though as it is the elite level of teamchase. I wish Id started it sooner :)

Im no expert bdw im sure plenty of people on here know more about teamchase than me! I would probs do a hunter trial first if you havent done one of them before :). Where abouts are you based? The one I run is pretty straightforward as long as you are confident as its a start of the season so designed for complete newbies and a first run back for everyone else :)

i'm near melton mowbray :) yeah i have found a few hunter trials now and i'm also planning on going to vale view for their arena eventing :) i have 3 friends that would like to do it with me, we've all jumped XC up to 4ft but i do realise that team chasing is different :)

oh, i should mention that i have a weird fear of hedges, for some reason i'd much rather jump a brick wall than a hedge  but i am working on me, horse isnt bothered at all :)

Pc team chase would be good for a first run as its easier/ more relaxed. As long as you have a horse happy to lead Im sure you will all be fine with your experience. The HT i run is with the Quorn Hunt so might not be too far for you if you do fancy an easy run to start the season. :) I miss HT/ teamchase already! Went hunting but the dozy mare turned suicidal so that kind of spoilt it!

Avoid mfha till you get going then as in my experience its nearly all hedges some quite big. PC on the otherhand was more solid wooden jumps. But thats just my personal experience. You can see pics of the mfha coursewalks on their website if that helps you decide if you think youd enjoy the courses :)

could you send me some details about HT you run please? it sounds like it'd be perfect for our first go :) i have had a look at the courses and i dont think i'd be happy to do that for my first go, once i get going and used to hedges then yes but they don't look appealing at all atm :o

Yep no problem if you PM me your email address I can send you a copy of the schedule with info on it rules etc and entry form as soon as Ive altered them for the 2012 competition and had them okayed by our DC. Its a junior and novice so there is only a couple of adult classes at approx 90cm height (might vary a cm or two!) and like I say its an easy first run but there usually is plenty of other adults :), and we had Clea Phillips bring one of her youngsters round for its first run xc this year (youngster was absolutely stunning!) :). There is a timed gate section so you need to be able to open and shut a gate - should be held shut by a loop of twine over a post again this year. We open it for competitors like Clea who didnt want to do it but that means you go HC. Look forward to seeing you there hopefully :)

thank you it sounds great! i will talk to the girls but i think we'll be all up for it :) and 2 hedges will be fine, i need to get over it really cuz they in theory should be less scary than a big solid log :) we'll have to choose the lead horse too put i'm guessing its probably gonna be me  if all of us will be up for it then 3 out of 4 horses will stand lke angles and back up etc to open gates so thats not a problem :) oh this is so exciting! :D thank you!

Okay I cant remember if we ran a pairs adult class this year (was too busy running round like a headless chicken!) but I want to do a pairs adult 90cm class next year (if DC okays it) so if that goes ahead you could always go in pairs to get them used to the idea of leading and following (we dont do a team option). Will check schedule & let you know :) recieved your pm

Hello. You're not a million miles away from me. Hunter trials will start again March/April, with quite a few nearby if you have transport? Blankney hunt supporters do one, as do Burton, Grove&Rufford do a lovely one at Osberton too.
I've teamchased quite a bit in the past, and really do love it, once your blood is up the hedges don't seem too huge. I would suggest getting a novice team together, and aiming possibly for the Fernie bogie time (novice) this season, it is March April time I think. I've never done the novice there, but gone roung the intermediate a couple of times and thought it rode really nicely. If you log onto www.teamchasing.co.uk they have a forum section and a lot of information for people new to the sport.
Also, if you are willing to travel a bit further, Badsworth&Bramham have replaced their teamchase at Frickley (due to lack of entries) with a hunter trial accumulator, they run one event over the teamchase course, and another hunter trial a few weeks later at Campsall.

Which 3?? Don't think B will stand once she gets going, too busy practicing her ballet!! (assuming I'm included lol!) Would def have to be B at moment, S would be in Rutland before anyone else got going! (assuming I'm allowed to join in!)

2 then :) and yes you are included but im afraid its pointless even trying it with S cuz we know we'd loose, unless we're competing against shetlands :D shoe will stand, and summer- one of the twins horse, cuz the twins wanna come :)
