Has anyone done team chasing? what is it like? I have a horse that I think would benefit from hunting & doing cross country in a pair, then I came across an article on team chasing - is it scary for a novice horse?

thats got all the dates on and a few pics so you can see what its like.
the fences at novice are about 2.9ft/3.3ft depending which hunt run it. they really arent difficult though as its all post and rails, ditches, drops, hedges etc.
intermediate is about 3.3ft again depending on hunt running it and open is about 3.6ft but hedges can be farily large! but this heights really do vary!
Yes - it's great fun - really educational for young/novice horse. We always used to do it at the beginning of the event season to get the non-hunting horses thinking forward after a winter of indoor jumping/dressage. You don't have to go fast - often the lower height classes are run against a "bogey" time - usually based on a fair hunting pace, so it's not necessarily the fastest team that wins, but the most consistent. It can also be judged on style - a couple of fences are "dressing" fences with judges marking the team for closeness etc. Have a go!

Great, thanks for all the info, the web site looks great, how do I start, sorry for the dumb question but do I need to get a team of four together? and without looking through all of the venues does anyone know of team chasing in East Sussex or Kent please? I really want to do it now and I will 'up' my insurance - gulp!
Do it, it's the best fun you can have with your clothes on!!
If you can't get a team togther yourself, contact the secretary of a competion you want to enter & tell him/her you're looking for team to join.
Yes it probably will up your insurance.
Yes, yes , yes - did it on my hunter who hated jumping in cold blood and he adored it!
You can also advertise for a ride round on the discussion forum of the team chase website - Burty from the Cunning Stunts is brilliant at putting teams together from novice level up, and you would be amazed how a team of complete strangers bond and look after each other
Whereabouts are you? Can advise on good events for first timers....
Check your insurance, and be prepared to be addicted...

Thanks for your reply, I am getting the bug already! I have had a couple of replies from people wanting to get a team together, we just need to find a novice venue somewhere not to far away, I am in East Sussex but can travel to Kent, West Sussex or anywhere up to about 2 hours away.
I have done xc team events but of course we all ride seperately (except pairs) can't wait to get started!
not sure about events, but there are also "fun classes" which are good for new people as they are designed for people who are new to it or riding young/novice horses. have a look through the events, they arent for a bit yet i dont think, but i would definitley go, you will be addicted in no time
