team chasing heights..

It's not really a standard thing as it's just what the hunt decide.

I can only speak as I find so -

Badsworth -
Novice is small, about 3' max, a bit poxy
Int is very decent, some meaty, tricky 3'6'' solid fences and hedges up to about 4'6'' I'd say
Open is MASSIVE, really big!! A lot of huge hedges as big as me (I'm 5'7'') and is a big lond slog!!

Y&A north - nothing too hard, all classes easy but not that nice a couse

Fernie - is lovely!!
Novice - max about 3'3'',
Int - max about 3'9''
Open - big but nice
All the courses at the Fernie are decent but nice, I'd say.

On average, I'd say expect 3' novice, 3'9'' int but bigger hedges and unlimited open!

Its not so much the height of the obstacles, its more to do with the speed you are approaching and how they are sited, for example max height for Badminton XC solid fence is 3ft11, but I bet many of us wouldn't jump round there!!
A decent hedge (a stockproof hedge) is usually upwards of 4ft3ins and as someone else says its not exactly uniform standards across the country.

Don't worry about the open tracks, just watch in awe until you want to do it yourself by which time you'll be up for it!!
The courses vary loads, your best bet would be to find one you'd like to try that isn't a million miles away then ask on www.teamchasing.co.uk message board and someone will let you know what its like. There are several nice courses that would give you a good introduction to teamchasing, once you've done it you'll be hooked! Reading the height of fences will put you off, if you can pop round a reasonable hunter trial course you'll be fine at novice level, they look much better off the back of a horse, honestly.
The novice is always a bogey time class, so its done at a decent canter. The speed classes are a whole different ball game. People who event at a fair level always try to jump in halfway up the ladder, this isn't eventing, start at the bottom and move up as you want to. That way you'll learn the game, and how much three other people can influence you and your horse!
Starbucks, agree with you about the Badsworth, did that as my first open a few years ago and completely bottled it during the coursewalk..... hedges you can't see over, even when standing on the groundline telegraph pole are not good in my book! But it rides beautifully. One of my favourites, although fell out with it a bit when they added a corner and some stiff solid event type fences. You don't hit event fences at the speed you take an open course at!
Give it a go, you'll love it!
Having said that, i've been called into the open this weekend after a two year break.... and i'm bricking it!!

Good luck Duggan!! Sure you'll have a blast!

Do you mean the solid fences in the first field? I think think they've made it a bit too hard tbh, the last couple of years I've watched hardly any teams got round the open!

I think it's because it's so far, then if it is wet horses seem to get too tired to jump the millionth 5'6'' hedge!
