Tear staining - how to remove?

My little terrier has always got a stained face from tears. His eyes are fine (been checked) but he always seems to have tear staining and being white (well, off white!), they really show. His sister's face is always nice and clean.

What is the best (and most gentle) way to remove the staining? Any ideas?

Use apple cider vinegar on cotton wool & wipe is the most effective way I have come across so far & can sort them in a week. You can also feed it to them as well!

I think I've read somewhere that the staining is caused by a particular diet so it might be worth checking that out, and I've seen stain removers for this problem in larger pet shops
