Tear Stains?

Any tips for keeping tear stains at bay - or generally getting rid of them?

At the moment I'm just washing Daisy's face with a warm flannel.
 
I have heard tear stains can be linked to diet. Maybe worth checking out bichon or Maltese websites as thy get ths a lot
 
Good point satinbaze. We're pretty much stuck with her diet at the moment as she's only 10 weeks old and is still on the food fed by the breeder. But I'll bear it in mind. Thanks.
 
'Sheep face white' works but you have to make to a paste, paint it on and leave it to dry. Could be done once a week to keep it at bay? It's the same stuff as used to make mayo white so completely non toxic :)
 
Tap water is a white dog owners worst enemy. You use it to wipe the stains way but it can help cause them. Just like you see white dogs with brown stained muzzles and the hair around their paws. These are the places they come in contact with tap water and obviously tears crying and also wiping.

It's also in their genes that they get these tears stains and other dogs don't I guess.

Diet & conformation can help prevent tear stains but all these questions should have been answered by the pup's breeder.

Lipsalve applied under the eye corners can prevent tear stains.

Yes that's right did the parents have tear stains.
 
Several. Including the ones already in our family.

There is nothing wrong with this little pup - so please leave any other comments you have at the door. I'm simply not interested.
 
I have a sporting lucas terrier who had tear staining as a pup, i did a bit of research and its caused by the oxidiation of tears causing the reddish stain, you can dab contact lenses fluid on the stain, mind the eyes, which i did as i have contact lenses it seemed to keep it at bay but also sometimes it is a puppy thing, once the adult teeth are thru it goes away which thankfully for me that was the case.
 
Theres lots of anecdotal evidence that raw feeding sorts tear stains. Mine dont get tear stains, but my resuce bitch had similar staining on her paws and thats totally gone now shes raw fed. I know 3 or 4 other people who have had dogs with tear stains that have gone with raw feeding :)
