Tearing my hair out :(

There are many horses for sale at the moment, with no health issues, no behavioural problems and they are not selling. I have posted elswhere about our Welsh cob xTB who had food intolerances and how long it took us to sort it out, we kept her for many years, but we had had her for a good while before her symptoms showed. We could never have sold her and she was never 'normal'. In a case like the OP's I would have PTS, with regret that the horse was in this state, but not with regret for the PTS (if that make sense)

Hard decision but I think you will be relieved when you are safe and so is the other person who also goes in the field. when you have the backing of the vet and BHS as well as the forum it really does tell you its the right thing for that horse. hope you can enjoy your youngster and can use your energy to look after your daughter
 
Big hugs OP. A rotten decision for you to have to make, but sometimes there is no alternative. I hope your daughter gets well soon, and you can start to enjoy life again.
 
Not an easy decision by any means but the right one for you, your family and your horse. So glad that your insurance company is supporting you in this too.

So pleased to come on here this morning & read that you've made a decision. You were absolutely right to speak with your vet, he knows you & the horse. I'm very glad that he is supporting you in this, sometimes vets don't, so to my mind, he must be pretty bad!

You are a brave, courageous lady that is doing the right thing for everyone concerned, you, the horse & your daughter. I hope that you have got some support? I personally would advise you NOT to be there when they do it. It won't make any difference to him & you sound in a fragile place at the moment. Let your vet/the hunt take charge. Get it done asap then you can move on & hopefully enjoy getting ready for Christmas with your lovely daughter :-)

I didn't give any advice because its so difficult to know how to help when I don't know the horse, the way its kept or anything else. You sounded so sensible, that it seems you know what you're doing and as I seldom believe in PTS unless everything else has been tried, I kept out of it.
However, you have discussed it with your vet and others in RL and are best placed to have made the decision that you have.
I really hope all goes well for you and that your daughter is ok. You've got so much on your plate right now and you really deserve a bit of good luck.
 
Sending hugs and my deepest respect.....I wish more owners where like you then there would be a lot less unhappy, unsound horses the are not even living.

Sometimes the best thing for them is release from this life.
 
Its so refreshing having a thread where there is no biotching and strong views saying your wrong. Everyone has given a nice sensible realistic advice all summing up the situation really clearly. All posters on this thread feel for you and your situation, I am glad you have had so many helping you with this making the outcome the same.

Choosing words carefully here - with the issues this horse has and not knowing why, you could not have past him on knowing he could hurt someone fatally. As everyone said its a buyers market out there and in your shoes judging what you said, I bet we would all do this. vibes sent and hope this situation ends as easily and humanly as poss.

Honestly? I would PTS. Anyone who knows me would know how I am not one to say that lightly, but the horse is obviously very unhappy, for whatever reason, and IMO it is only a matter of time before he seriously injures someone. Sorry, but that is what I would do once I had tried to get to the bottom of why he was acting this way. Some horses are just plain nasty. I have no time for such animals.
 
Feeling nothing but relief proves that it is the right thing to do. I hope all goes well tomorrow, I think it's the right thing to act quickly once the decision is made. Hopefully you can devote your energies to your youngster and daughter without having to worry about him now. x
 
Thanks again. All arrangements have been made and the vet is coming out at 11.30. I will stay with the horse for the procedure as I feel I owe him that.
Feeling worse about it this morning BUT still I know it's the right thing to do :(
 
Awe bless you. You will feel a bit numb , but you will eventually feel relieved and what ever you do ,do not feel guilty. You have been very sensible and you are doing the right thing for the horse and your family.
