Tears before bedtime update

Some of you may remember my post the other day about the complete novices buying a horse.
After meeting the father I was beginning to despair - he clearly knew less than they did. during the course of the past week the owner "M" has "sat" on the pony twice - she is petrified of it. It went to walk forward with her last night, she screamed and jumped off.

Well tonight has just topped the lot.
At the weekend the husbands mother came down "L" and had a sit on the pony. L decided she would like one too.
So tonight, they took delivery of a 4 year old. L did once work in a riding school - when she was 11. L does'nt live locally so is leaving M in charge of said pony during the week and plans to pop down at weekends.
I despair I really really do.
I will fill in more details soon - right now I'm in a state of shock.

They are lucky they have someone like you to keep an eye out. I'm sure you will make sure the horses don't suffer, but they must be mad

I guess as it is their business the best you can be asked to do is perhaps keep and eye on the ponies health? Oh dear, it can't end well.

why? why? why?
why do people buy a horse just because they 'feel' like it?
why do people buy young horses when they clearly don't know enough about the old ones let alone the impressionable ones?
why does it always fall on people like us (who probably haven't got that much free time) to 'keep an eye' on a horse that's nothing to do with them because the new owners haven't got a clue?
and lastly, why can other (un-knowledable) people buy horses when i can't afford to buy a nice dressage one despite the fact i've been saving for ages?!
It's just not fair!
