Techo Numpty question .... Ipods dressage to music

Ok Ok Ok .................I'm old !.. have no idea about half of these new fangled things that are available, but need some help.
I am now embarking on some DTM (Dressage to Music) and have been told that an MP3 player or Ipod will help me loads as I can download single tracks and store them also with speakers have it played alound in the school ... but I am really confused with what I really need, looking at different sites they all list features and tricks as if talking to the educated ... which I am not !!!

can anyone tell me what I need in plain and simple terms? !!

all you need is a simple mp3 player - it doesn't have to be an ipod, but it does make it easier to download tracks.
tbh, you don't even need an mp3 player - if you have a portable cd player, you can burn your own cds and just plug the cd player into the speakers via the headphones jack
