Evening all,

Had a quick scoot through old messages but just ended up confusing myself. My 13 year-old has just discovered the joy of jumping & would like to enter a couple of upcoming shows - yay, proud mum moment!

He says he'd rather wear a plain jacket than a tweed - would this be acceptable..? Our pony is a black cobby type with lots of hair going on pretty much everywhere so I know a tweed would be more correct but could he get away with a navy(?) jacket - don't want to do anything that might put him off this new-found interest!

Also, what hat would be best? He's currently in a skull but needs a new one so could get him a velvet hat if this would be better. He's adamant that he won't do PC, dressage or anything else that he thinks is too *girly* so for now it'll just be used for lessons, hacking & jumping :)

Thanks for your help peeps!

If nothing else, please invest in nice men's jodhpurs! Boys wearing girl's jods are rarely a pretty sight :D

A nice navy jacket will look just as smart as a tweed :)

navy blue or black would be ok...dont see many show jumpers in tweed.......
then again you get such a variation of colours i expect he could go for some sort of grey if he wanted!!!!

id stick to a skull with a nice silk....or one of the 'plastic look' hats...they're quite in in show jumping atm......velvet may look a bit 'girlish'

Hi guys,

Thanks for that - he'll be very pleased! Lolo - completely with you on the jodhpurs front. Have just snapped up some nice-looking men's breeches on ebay :) T&D - was a bit fixated on tweed because his pony is M&M, doh - you can tell I don't really compete much myself can't you?!

Thanks again both!
