Teenagers with horses/ponies

Long long time since I was a teenager with very unhorsey parents who wouldn't pay for anything! Totally unsupportive even thought they liked to brag about the fact that we had a pony. Bought my pony with my own money and only ever asked for horse stuff for Christmas and birthdays. Eventually ended up with 4 ponies - everything paid for by me - (worked every spare hour I had earning the money to keep them). Now have a 16 year old daughter and 3 horses. Daughter has decided to pursue a career in horses and luckily has me to help and pay for everything for her. Still working bloody hard to pay for everything. Waiting desperately for the lottery win! :)

I don't have my own pony, but have loaned one!

My mum is relatively horsey, when I was younger she would have her lesson while I had mine. It's only until around 2 years ago that she stopped riding! She's always very supportive of my passion - though it drives her up the wall sometimes :D Dad on the other hand doesn't get it at all - though does try his best :p xx

im 16 and my parents were totally unhorsey but we now have 4 horses and my sister works away so my mum has been forced to help out :D but she loves it now. dont think she will every ride but horses rule our life so there isnt much getting out of it!

I'm 17 (very nearly 18), been riding since I was 9 and mum used to pay for my fortnightly ridding lessons until I started working at the riding school on the weekends so I worked to pay for them. When I got my first pony on loan from the riding school I worked both days all day to pay for him. That was when I was about 13/14 and I had him just over a year. Didn't get Ted on loan until late last year when I had a job so could pay for him myself, didn't tell mum about him for a while as I didnt think she'd be happy about it, but when I did tell her she wasn't too fussed as it was only loaning. When I was given Ethel, I didn't tell my mum until a week after I got her as I was scared I'd get a telling off :p Instead, she came up to see her and fell in love with her :) She doesn't do anything other than stroke her and occasionally give her a brush, but she only sees her about once a month but always asks me how she is :) She used to ride as a teen herself so can see why I love them, but just isn't so interested in them anymore. She doesn't know I have Henry, cause I'm pretty sure I'd get a beating for having two horseys :p

i've been riding since i was about 6 - due to pestering my mum for months she finally caved and booked me a lesson.
none of my family are horsey at all. i had weekly lessons until january this year when i got my first part loan. my mum doesn't really like me part loaning/doing anything with horses other than my lessons because she thinks that learning to drive/uni/whatever is more important. she doesn't pay for my loans, doesn't give my lifts, etc, do it all myself :)
my dad is a bit more leniant - he'll sometimes help me out paying for horse, sometimes gives me a lift to the yard and takes me home, but not really interested in horses at all. doesn't stay to watch me ride or whatever, just drops me off and picks me up.

i'm 17 now and have a part time job to pay for part loans, and i have to get a bus to the yard (absolute pain in the winter :( )

sucks not having horsey parents :'(

Am not a teen but mother of one. I am very involved with my daughter and her horses. I ride during the week to keep up fitness and do most of the looking after mid week as her school hours are very long. In the holidays she does everything herself unless she is competing which is most weekends and then I am driver and groom.
I try to take a back seat when she is around but find it hard especially as her new horse has become my baby as I am riding him. Kind of dreading the holidays cos I will have less to do with him!

Both parents completely unhorsey. They pay the majority of the bills (for which I am very grateful) and are a taxi service for the final 6 months before I can drive :p They have nothing to do with the care of the horse though :)

My daughter is fortunate. I have three horses of my own, event and compete in dressage. Her cousin competes in CCI** and is in the Olympic long training team and my cousin used to compete in CCI**** until he had a rotational fall!!
Interestingly she blows hot and cold about horses but they are there when she wants as is the support. Her Mum is totally non horsey and snoozes thru my competitions
